My partner and I spent 2 nights at The Apex International in The Grassmarket during The Fringe Festival recently.
This was my 3rd stay at this Apex Hotel.
l LOVE IT!
On my two previous visits I have taken different friends with me.
Everyone has been in awe of The Hotel, its facilities and lovely friendly, efficient staff, its location, and the fabulous Castle views.

In my experience, The Apex International just gets better and better!

The rooms are pristine, light and airey.
So the Hotel doesnt have air con yet.
However, I always pay a little extra and book a Castle Facing room, with windows or a Balcony door which open to allows you to access to plenty of fresh air.
Bear in mind, though, Castle facing rooms can be noisy, especially if you leave windows/doors open.
This is because they are directly opposite the busy little bars and restaurants opposite.
But this is a small price to pay, in my opinion for staying in such a wonderful cosmopolitian area and being to so close to The Royal Mile and Princes Street.
If you want a quiet room its best to book one at the back of The Hotel

Breakfasts are just wonderful.
Some of the nicest I've enjoyed anywhere.
Fantastic buffet selection and hot food cooked fresh to order.
And I stay in awful lot of Hotels!

Lifts are roomy, fast and efficient, and the small Swimming Pool immaculate and refreshing.

I will never stay anywhere else when visiting Edinburgh.
Try it.
I doubt you will be disappointed

Its location is perfect but that means it’s on quite a busy road. My room was at the front (with a great view of castle) but the road noise was disturbing.

The room was great; spacious, clean and the staff were welcoming - They let me check in at 8am without prior arrangement.

There is a car park free to guests but space is limited - I got the last available space.

The aspect that ruined my stay was the noise from the corridors. All the doors slam shut and noise from other guests carries. On my last morning I woke at 6am from a group of kids running up and down the corridor.

If you're not a heavy sleeper, I wouldn't recommend here.

I won't be staying here again.

My husband and I booked this hotel for a one night stay to attend the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. The location is fantastic. A very short walk to The Royal Mile and a view of the castle from the hotel. Parking was great. Reception area contemporary and spacious. The room was unbearably hot-no air-con. The bathroom had no fan/air-con. Lighting was the worst ever-absolutely impossible to SAFELY shave or apply make-up! The bed was the bounciest, softest mattress ever. Every spring in the damn thing could be felt. Breakfast was really nice. A beautiful view of the castle and a delicious hot Scottish cooked breakfast-complete with haggis. Would I go back? Yes. Simply for location.

Stayed at this hotel on a weekend to take part in the Moonwalk - 26.2 miles around Edinburgh with my 3 friends.

I decided to use this hotel as I had read some good reviews and got an extremely good price on Expedia.

The hotel was very good, rooms were spacious and we had a double bed each which was very comfortable especially after 26miles! Coffee/tea provided in the room - but no minibar.

The location was fab, right opposite the castle and on Grassmarket and the restaurants opposite were very good.

Staff were very pleasant although did have a bit of a miserable receptionist...still everything was good, well maintained and clean.

Room service breakfast was outstanding, and the pool although not very big was very welcome after a long walk.

If in Edinburgh again I would definitely use this hotel

I will use this hotel again for my next visit to Edinbrgh, it's location in the Grassmarket is perfect, the staff are excellent and the food and rooms are also amazingly good. To find out why I have detailed my visit below. If only all hotels were this good.

I had been asked to fly to Edinburgh from Norwich for work. So I was not to impressed to have my Sunday evening ruined by boarding a tiny plane and buzzing into a wet and windy Edinburgh, then to be overcharged for the taxi from the airport I just wanted a nice hot bath and some nice food.
My check was swift and accurate. I needed some directions to a fringe venue and the knowledge of the staff was excellent and they really made me feel that this was all part of the service.
I found my room and was really impressed with the decor and the detail touches, a little tag on the toilet roll to show it has not been used since the room was last cleaned, more than enough towels and ones big enough to go right round comfortably. Also there was a rubber duck, a human touch that made me smile.
I had traveled with a colleague and we had arranged to meet up an hour later for food in the Metro restaurant on the ground floor. The gentleman on the front desk was again really good to talk to, the waitress was really friendly to, we both ordered the steak rare, normally you get an average piece of meat more medium to rare than rare itself, but not this time it was the nicest steak I have had in years, cooked perfectly with enough of the extras to let you know you'd had a good meal.
I always have breakfast in my room after a little session in the gym and pool - the equipment in the gym as modern and current technogym equipment the same as in the gym I use at home, and it was again very tidy and very well presented, the pool area was also spotless and I was joined by a much larger rubber duck as well, the pool is made of metal with a tile surround which really was a nice alternative touch that worked really well. I returned to my room for breakfast, which was on time and exactly what I ordered, it was the right temperature and the eggs were right, another little touch you really notice.
That evening I had a fantastic meal in the Heights Restaurant, this overlooks the castle (like my room check out the picture), the service was fantastic, I had the mushroom soup starter, followed by organic cod with mashed parsnip on abed of spinach which was amazing as well, then we got stuck with desert and I had to ask our waitress for advice on what to have, Advice I am glad I asked for as the desert was amazing, strawberry and shortbread and ice-cream, then finished of with Coffee and scotch fudge.
When I checked out I was again greeted with the same service as I had for the length of my stay.
