The Apex International Hotel is located on a charming cobblestone street in old-town Edinburgh. Its a very sleek, modern hotel -- think glass, black marble, etc. Everything was immaculately clean from the lobby to our room and bathroom. Room service for breakfast was quite tasty.

The hotel is walking distance to all tourist attractions and a 3 pound bus ride from the airport. There are a good number of cute restaurants in the immediate 5 blocks surrounding, ranging from pub fare (if you want haggis or fish/chips), as well as modern Scottish fine-dining.

This was a very nice hotel, comparable to the Metropolitan in New York City - Manhattan (for anyone who's ever stayed there), both in style, price, and comfort/amenities. This is definitely a large cut above a Holiday Inn, etc.

My daughter and I stayed at the Apex for 2 nights in Feb. I booked the hotel through a website and got an amazing deal of 80 euros a night.

The hotel is in a great location for walking and seeing Edinburgh. The tour buses and city buses stop outside the hotel - nothing could be easier. There are several pubs and restaurants right across the street. It about a 10 minute walk to Waverly but longer coming back to the hotel as its all uphill. Be sure to look for shortcuts in the form of stairways and passageways. You can't get lost.

The hotel was very nice. The room was large and roomy. Loved the little rubber duckie they leave for you. The bath items were nice as well. There was coffee, hot chocolate and bottled water in the room as well as a pack of cookies - replenished each day.

The room could have used a bit of sprucing up. There were scuff marks here and there on the walls and the caulking in the bathtub didn't really seem 4 star to me.

The staff was friendly but I didn't find them to be very inter-active. They were just sort of there. We enjoyed the pool very much. Most of the time we were there alone.

We ordered breakfast in the room the first night for 9.50 pounds. There was enough for me and my daughter. I'd advise against this, for the money. There was a small croissant and a half a pain au chocolate that were grabbed out of a bag, no doubt. It had been a long time since they had seen the inside of a bakery! The breakfast came with salmon, cheese and chorizo which I simply could not face first thing in the morning. There was no unsweet bread to eat it with anyway. The coffee was obviously a pour-through sort of brew that was barely more than colored water. My daughter had cereal and yogurt but the yogurt was more like something drinkable. This was not a 4 star hoel breakfast! For the next days, bought a loaf of bread, some cream cheese, a box of cereal and a carton of milk and put tthem outside on the window sill. This was a good enough breakfast for the next two days and we had coffee and hot chocolate provided in the room.

So, great location, loved the hotel, staff friendly but not overly so, breakfast not worth it at all.

We booked the International for a birthday visit to edinburgh primarily because of its location and views of the castle. It didn't dissappoint on both counts, and the exec room with balcony we had was excellent - a great view.

The rooms all look great, but closer inspection shows up some work needed - painting and decorating mainly, although the public areas are immaculate. The staff on reception and restaurant were exceptional - super polite and very helpful.

Recommendation:- the Heights restaurant has amazing views and the food was really good - recommend the steak! For cheaper eating theres an excellent cafe, bar and a pizza restaurant across the road.

We like the area and would stay here again.

This is just right; great location (though I imagine it can be busy on Grassmarket in season) and very good staff. Rooms are clean, comfortable and quiet. We didn’t eat in the hotel as there are a number of interesting places within easy walking distance. Top Tip: Have breakfast at Always Sunday on the Royal Mile. It’s not inexpensive but excellent food and smashing staff. The Apex is well worth considering for a short stay in Edinburgh.

I stayed at the apex international from Sataurday 2nd March to Monday 5th March with my boyfriend. I booked this hotel as it was four star and i was looking for something special as it was his 21st. I wasnt exactly dissapointed but there was a few complaints.

Bad Points: The room for example, it appears well decorated but when i looked a little closer it was in need of a little TLC. Some of the pillows on the bed and the throws had some marks on them. The walls and the cieling has some dirty marks on them also. The paint on the window ledge has been peeling away for some time and the toilet seat was completley broken-this proved difficult and uncomfortable when trying to use it.

Aldo the room isn't cleaned unless you hand a notice on the door requesting it to be cleaned. we wern't told this at reception and by 4-the room stl wasnt cleaned. it was then i notice that you had to request it- i found this rather strange.

when we decided to try using the pool and sauna-the sauna wasnt switched on-this was at 3 in the afternoon. it took 30 minutes before we could tell a memeber of staff, then it took another while to heat up.

Good Points: The room was large and comfortable and clean.
There was complimentary tea/coffe/hot chocolate.
There was also an iron and iron board.

You also have the option to have breakfast delivered to your room-you just choose what ou wants and hang the card on your door. The breakfast was very good.

The hotel is well located-about 5 minutes from the Royal Mile

The Pool and Sauna were really nice-and lovely and warm

The Staff were very friendly and helpfull

Overall we had a fantastic weekend. Abd the Apex International is a lovely hotel-but for a 4 star and paying well ove £200 i expected a little more from the room, but none of it stopped us having a lovely stay. However im not sure if i would stay again.

tips-try the Italian restaurant accross from the hotels- Gennaros-its fantastic!!

  • Liked — the location and the pool-and helpfull staff
  • Disliked — the rooms-just a few things-nothing major
