Just back from a 3 night stay in this hotel. It was the first time staying here, having previously stayed at the Apex City hotel closeby. Check-in was speedy enough, however, although we paid for breakfast for the 3 days in advance at check-in, this was not conveyed to the staff at breakfast and we were asked for payment again each day. We were also not given the £10 voucher promised when booking directly with the hotel.
The bar area was fine, although there seemed to be a distinct lack of seats. We ate there on the first evening, ordering our food at about 5.30 to take advantage of the 2 meals for £20, however when the bill came we were charged the full price.
We had breakfast early on the first morning, and whilst I think the staff were trying to be attentive, it felt as if they were hovering at our shoulders the entire time. We ordered the full scottish breakfast, which came to our table almost immediately, while we were still eating a bowl of cereal. We had to hold our cereals and eat them from our hands rather than having the bowls on the table, as there was not enough room to set the breakfast plate elsewhere while we finished eating the cereal.
Breakfast on the other days were fine, although a bit of a wait for the hot food on the Saturday, probably due to the business of the breakfast room at that time.

The room was fine, absolutely no view, other than the back of other buildings, and bathroom was fine. It had a large shower cubicle and a bath, which was great. We didn't use the spa or pool, but my boyfriend used the gym, which was perfectly fine, although it was small so if there was more than say 4 people in it, it would be cramped.
The only other issue was housekeeping. We had gone out for a full day, and on leaving that morning the houskeeping trolley was sitting outside our room. When we returned at approx 5pm, the trolley was still sitting there. I had just undressed for a shower when there was a knock on the door requesting entrance to clean the room. I explained that I was about to have a shower and he said he would give me half-an-hour then he would come back. I therefore felt extremely rushed to get ready for a night out! In the end I ended up getting dressed again and going to sit in the bar for a while, while he cleaned the room. Not great at all!

All in all, an ok stay. I probably wouldn't go back if I was able to book at room at the Apex City, as we much prefered it.

Stayed for one night whilst meeting friends in Edinburgh. Smart enough room, but very efficiently designed to make maximum use of space. The bathroom especially was very tight, to the extent that I had to stand sideways in the bath whilst showering, otherwise my feet were actually at an angle on the sides of the bath because it was so narrow.

Found it unusual for a 4-star hotel that there was no minibar in the room.

Breakfast was again very cramped in the dining room, with the required space apparently calculated down to the bare minimum, with waiting staff constantly brushing you on the way by.

Breakfast itself was very average in terms of choice, and the cooked food we had was fairly dry and bland.

This was our third visit to Apex International. We love this hotel. We paid a little extra for a deluxe room which gave us a balcony with fantastic view of Edinburgh Castle and the Grassmarket . There are very limited quantity of balcony rooms and all on the 4th floor, but well worth it. Room equipped with WiFi, fridge, bath robes, slippers, sewing kit, earplugs and usual tea/coffee and soaps etc. We also managed a wee swim and sauna after lunch and shopping and before going out for dinner. As a lovely unexpected gesture, a bottle of wine was placed in our room with a card for my wife's birthday.

I found all the staff to be friendly and helpful and the room to be fantastic. Car parking is chargeable, but convenient given the proximity of the hotel. It is a hilly walk to Princes St., but this is to be expected in volcanic Edinburgh. There are plenty of bars, restaurants, tourist attractions and museum within a short walk.

Five stars from me. Only thing I'd recommend checking is if your booking includes breakfast. Not all do.

Spent 2 days here with my wife for Christmas. We booked a family room as it was a good price and overlooking the castle. The room was ready at about 2.30pm and our cases were taken up by Manuel who seemed to a very busy man but always spoke to you as did all staff. Room had a great view of the grass market and castle. Thought the bath was rather small in our room but fine. Iron hairdryer etc all in the room with large tv on the wall. Had a bit of noise from other guests so not the fault of the hotel. Only ate out so ant comment on the food. Breakfast was £13 or £10 each if booked in advance but we had a lovely brekkie in Scooby Doos across the road for less than half the price. All in all nice stay and if in that area would stay again.

The main room was small but perfectly functional. The shower was in a very small bath and was a bit awkward to stand in. For one night it was fine. The hallway leading up to the room and the room itself were in need of a paint.

The bar and food were great and the staff were very friendly. The Gift voucher on arrival was much appreciated.

Great location in the city centre, I stayed here after our Christmas party night. The breakfast room has a fabulous view of Edinburgh Castle. Staff cannot do enough for you. Rooms are comfortable although the room I had was little on the small side.

Stayed for 2 nights as a short Christmas break for my husband and I. We booked a family room with castle view. The room was lovely and spacious and did have a fantastic view of the castle. I was a bit worried about the noise from the Grassmarket but did not hear much at all and it didn't affect sleeping. On our second day we returned to the room about 2.30 and the room hadn't been serviced which meant we had no tea coffee milk etc so we had to go back out for coffee. You don't get many coffees or milk. On the next morning we were awoken at 8.20 by the staff trying to service the room then! Not acceptable by any means and I informed the staff on checkout but didn't get much response. Didn't have breakfast so can't comment on this but did have a coffee and scone in the bar area. The scone was quite small and a bit hard and the coffee not very hot but we used our complimentary £10 voucher so can't really complain. Overall it is a nice hotel with nice rooms and would definitely stay again if in the area but they need to sort their room servicing out.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking Grassmarket have lovely view of castle but have potential of being noisy
