“my mums 50th”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

My sister and myself organised to take a trip to edinburgh to see the panda's and my sister had stayed here before.
We arrived early in the morning about 10.00 am and knew that our room wouldnt be ready till 2.30pm but we had booked to go to the castle and they were very helpful when we checked we left all our bags and were told that they would be in the room when we arrived.
When we came back from a great look around and the castle we had booked a family room with a view from the castle it came with two double beds the room was clean and the beds were soo comfortable.
The international is a great place to stay as it is one of the main areas of edinburgh and really easy to get around.
one of the nights we had dinner in the hotel we only had mains they were very nice but quite expensive when there are soo many others places to eat that our cheaper and quite a few pubs on the opposite side of the road.
The window overlooked the main road which was a little noisy but not much, being scotland we were ready for chilly nights but it was always very hot in our room so we didnt need to worry.

Have just returned from a brief stay in this centrally located hotel. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the room was of a good size and very comfortable. We did not use the bar or have breakfast in the hotel as the hotel is surrounded by cafes and bars but that was just our choice. If you want to explore this beautiful city this hotel is literally minutes from the main sights. The hop on hop off tour bus stops a few minutes walk from the hotel and Waverley Station is a short taxi ride away or a 15 min walk. I would stay there again.
The only negative thing was the lack of air conditioning in our room and it was hot most of the time. I did notice a small fan which was available to use in the room so I think this must be something the hotel are aware of. Ok in the Winter but during the Summer this could be a problem.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front of the hotel have a great view of the castle. However, Grassmarket is a busy...

We stayed two nights in this hotel which was picked for being central so that we could walk everywhere (Edinburgh is a city to walk in). We were minutes from the national museum and the city centre a stroll away. The Greyfriars churchyard is around the corner.
The room had two large double beds with plenty of pillows and had a modern feel to it..
All staff we met were friendly, helpful and approachable. They approached you rather than the other way around which is a credit to them and the way it should be.
The room was at the rear of the hotel and even though you miss the view of the dominating castle it may well be more quiet than overlooking the square and a busy urban road.
Though comfortable our room was stuffy even with the windows open; this did not help sleep quality. There did not appear to be any air conditioning which is a minus point given the 4 star rating; plus the windows were not of the more modern double glazed type. The curtains however were of a good quality and fitted well allowing very little unwanted early morning light to enter.
We were in town for a short break and did not use the restaurant or bar and health facilities. There is a car park which must be a plus in the old part of town.
It was the quality of the staff we met that made our stay at this hotel more enjoyable.

Room Tip: You may miss the castle view but rooms at the rear may be more quiet than those at the front.

It wasn't great and it wasn't terrible. It definitely wasn't memorable. To be honest if this was a cheap break at a 3 star I couldn't complain but it was a 4 star special break for us and it left me seriously underwhelmed. Best bit was breakfast, worst bit the barman phoning our room every 20 minutes whinging about us needing to open a credit account with reception in order that our lunch bill could be charged to the room! Irritating and unnecessary.

My friend and I were very impressed by this hotel located right in the middle of Old town, a few minutes from the Royal mile and of course the castle. The rooms are very modern, our room had a castle view and was facing the square. All staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed there for two nights in September 2013.

Thank you fellow Trip Advisors! Your reviews led us to pick the perfect spot to stay in Edinburgh. Close to the attractions, good pubs across the street.... We had an absolutely lovely view of the Castle from our room - and at breakfast I might add. The room was clean, our bed was comfy, and we did not encounter the noise that other people were complaining about. We only heard it one night when a passing wedding party visited the pubs! The food at the bar was good, breakfast was very hearty for us picky Americans, and ALL the front desk personnell were very friendly and accomodating. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: Pay extra for the view!

My wife and I stayed here as we attending a function in the early evening. Got parked in their car park, which was a plus. Check in was quick and very friendly staff. Room was on the fourth floor, large with a balcony overlooking the Grassmarket and Castle. We didn't have a drink in the bar, but we did eat in the Heights Restaurant on our return. The food and presentation was superb and again the waiting staff were very good and attentive. Breakfast was in the same restaurant which is on the 5th floor and looks over to the Castle, great selections and tea and lots of toast. Check out was a breeze. We will certainly try and book this hotel again when we visit Edinburgh in the future, if it is available, we couldn't book it on their website, but found it on Gala Hotels website.
