“a pleasant stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Stayed here for 2 nights in April 2013 and enjoyed it just fine. The room had two comfortable double beds, and a great view of the castle out the front. the shower and loo was fine, maybe a bid of unclean grout, but i've seen worse. a big tv and a room safe, hairdryer etc, tea/coffee. the bar stayed open til 5am one night. the location is good, 5 pubs across the road, and close enough for entertainment. i had no complaints. brekfast was nice. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: ask for the front for a view of the castle and street

Have used this hotel on a number of occasions but our last stay was disappointing!

Booked a "superior room" only to find there was mould in the shower, screws sticking out of the wall. Not what I would expect from this hotel!

Ordered a bottle of Rioja wine for the room at a cost of £24.95p (i have had better Rioja's from a supermarket for £4.99) only to find a load of sediment in the bottom. They did not charge for the wine but I had to complain to two different people before they offered!

Come on guys not what I would expect from Apex

Room Tip: The superior rooms have a beautiful view of the castle, usually worth paying that bit extra!

Apex International fantastic, all the staff we spoke to very helpful, friendly and really went beyond the normal service.. My Wife and I stayed two nights and I got a great price on our stay, two nights = £150. Location was fantastic, Edinburgh is a truly amazing city. This was our first trip to Edinburgh and we would def stay here again. Many thanks to all, the room was lovely at the front of the hotel with amazing view of the castle. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Great view of the castle from the front of the hotel.

I can say enough about the Apex International. It has everything you need in a hotel and more if you require it. The view, the room, the food, the facilities and the what makes you want to stay even longer is the fantastic staff.
Superb place to stay, and cannot wait to visit again. Thank you Apex International and there staff.

Room Tip: When booking please ask for a view of the castle, breath taking!

After shopping around hotels in central Edinburgh, we booked to stay for the night of our wedding. We also block booked multiple rooms for our families. The Booking Co-ordinator was excellent, showing us the facilities before we committed. The Deluxe room was very good although a bit small. The view of Edinburgh Castle was excellent. The only problem was our stay was let down by them loosing the detail that I am Gluten Free and as a result, breakfast was very poor in my eyes. In fairness I should add that my Wife and our Families had no problem. I guess this one comes down to poor management of the details!

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a Castle View.

I stay at this hotel very regularly (almost every week) on business and have taken the family a few times for breaks.

The hotel is ideally placed for walking around Edinburgh and seeing all that this wonderful city has to offer therefore I would recommend it... clearly they do something right as I keep going back !

The rooms at the front of the hotel have castle views but the hotel is L Shaped. All rooms at the back overlook the car park or at best roof tops. Often these rooms are quieter, unless the uni building at the back is hosting one of their parties (mainly during the week, term time and not too often)

The 4th floor rooms (Superior) have a balcony which is great on a summer evening. 5th floor have large opening windows. Both of these floors offer probably he best castle views available.

Heights restaurant on the 5th floor offers great food which is reasonably priced, but with so many excellwnt restaurants in Edinburgh.... why eat in ?

Pool is ok as is the gym and sauna. Avoid peak times in school holidays as it gets full.

Few grumbles.... some of the rooms are srarting tolook a little dated, not excessively so, but just needing a redecorate. This is also true of the lift and corridors.

Finally..... the staff are worth a special mention. They really are brilliant. Polite, friendly and helpful. They are probably the best indication that this is a 'good' hotel as, unusually many of them have worked there for years.
