What a wonderful experience staying in the Apex International in Edinburgh was for my family and I. Where do I start.... The family room that we stayed in was fantastic, it was spotlessly clean, a good size, had lots of choice on the tea/coffee tray, and had a user-friendly TV & DVD player! (Childrens DVD's could be borrowed from Reception for free, with a good range to choose from, adults had a small charge.)
The staff were so friendly and went really out of their way to help. We didn't see anybody waiting for help, as staffing levels seemed really high, always making it the staff really approachable.
The swimming pool looked fabulous, even though we didn't get time to use it (1st trip to Edinburgh - too much to see and do) and in the evening there are numerous soothing lights to set a relaxing mood.
The location couldn't be better, with a wonderful view of the castle, and in walking distance of all the main attractions.
Food - FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We stayed at the Apex International Edinburgh for two nights in March.

The Apex International is a modern hotel in Grassmarket which is usually a picturesque area, however, the surrounding area did resemble a building site due to building work, but once it is complete, the area will be lovely especially in the summer and at Christmas. There are plenty of little shops, restaurants and bars near to the hotel there is even a "late shop" and a fish and chip shop!

The hotel is a modern hotel which fantastic views of Edinburgh Castle. Our room was located on the 2nd floor and had great views of the Castle and Grassmarket. The room was comfortable, warm and well equipped (jelly beans and pringles included!). There was a safe, fridge, hairdryer, iron and ironing board. The bathroom was modern, clean and the only downside was that there didn't appear to be any heating in the bathroom which made it cold when you came out of the shower. Also, there was no bath, just a shower which did leak quite a lot. There was a lack of hanging facilities in the bathroom. We ate out the first night and on the second night we tried to book a meal in the "Heights Restaurant" which overlooks the Castle. Unfortunately, Heights Restaurant was fully booked, so if you do decide to stay here, make sure you book the restaurant in advance. There is another restaurant called the "Metro Restaurant", but this appeared somewhat dull and the menu did nothing for us. There are lots of eating places within very easy walking distance and we did manage to book a table at an american pizza restaurant just across from the hotel.

Breakfast in the morning was in th Heights Restaurant and was fanastic. There was a help yourself continental style buffet and orders were taken for Scottish Breakfast. There was plenty of choice and breakfast could not be faulted. The breakfast staff were very professional and attentive.

The pool was an added extra, but was quite small. The changing rooms were rather cramped and the lockers were limited. We ended up taking our clothes to the pool area due to the lack of lockers.

All in all though, an excellent hotel which I would recommend. As mentioned before, once the building work has finished in Grassmarket it will only improve the hotel.

If staying in Edinburgh again, we would definately try to book this hotel again.

I've stayed in this hotel a few times over the past few years and my experience is always the same. Great location, efficient front desk staff, attractive, comfortable rooms (with some lovely toiletries) but TERRIBLE restaurants. If you choose this hotel DO NOT choose the bed and breakfast option. We waited an hour and a half for our breakfast on the first morning, only to be served cold porridge, over-done eggs, and cold pancakes. Our waitress barely spoke English, despite claiming to have been in Scotland for 3 years. After taking our order she proceeded to chat to her friends in front of us before taking our order to the kitchen..... rather frustrating!
Also, if you are bothered by noise ask for a room facing away from the Castle. Personally, I can put up with the noise at pub-letting-out-time for the fantastic view of the Castle.

Lovely hotel. went for a hen do and it was perfect. location in the grass market was excellent - walk easily to tourist attractions - topless bus stops right outside!! small pool and spa but fine for a little relax. breakfast DELICIOUS! rooms nice, we had 4 sharing in our room and altho it got a little messy it was roomy enough.
