We had an excellent stay in Edinburgh. The B&B is three or four minutes walk from the nearest cafes and restaurants on Hanover Street (for example the very good Urban Angel), as well as the shops on Queen Street, George Street and Princes Street. However, the B&B is on a quiet street and we were undisturbed by traffic noise etc.

Gerald was away for most of our short stay and we were ably cared for by his sister Gloria. Both were friendly and easy company without being intrusive, which was great. They were also helpful with ideas about what to do on the very rainy and windy days we were in the city.

The room was clean and comfortable with plentiful tourist info, hot towels, hot-drink facilities (with fresh milk in the fridge), and comfy bed.

Altogether a lovely place to stay - would recommend and return.

Staying in Scotland's capitol? This is the place to stay.
A superb host and excellent facilities make staying in at 21B a real pleasure. We have stayed at many fine hotels all over Europe and this is as good as any!!
Do try Haldanes resaurant round the corner its great. Book the restaurant on Dine Around Scotland on the net, Great deals and meals
Thanks for a fantastic weekend Gerald - we will be back!!!!

Didn't know exactly what to expect...but WOW!...Gerald proved to be the perfect host from the moment we arrived to the rainy moment we left. Immediately upon arrival Gerald spent about forty minutes filling us in on the sites of Edinburgh..where to eat...what to avoid...this came with numerous brochures...several vidoes of the local scene...and a laptop computer with broadband access...(also included a sip of whiskey)...so we had more than ample info from the start. Nowhere in our travels were we treated with as much enthusiasm, knowledge, and ..ah yes..wisdom. He also proved to be an excellent chef....I even developed a taste for haggis (Gerald's style). His art is huge ,ecclectic, and one feels no urgent need to run off to the nearby galleries. Finally, we got a special treat as Gerald joined us for dinner one night at a local pub. ("I don't do this often." he says) No question...next visit to Edinburgh we stay at Gerald"s Place

While planning a trip to Scotland, my mom came across this place and, after several friendly emails with Gerald, decided that we should stay at this B&B on our travels through Britain. When we arrived in Edinburgh, we were not only amazed at the historic beauty of the city but by the generous hospitality of our host. He ushered us into beautifully arranged rooms and explained everything about the rooms, even providing comprehensive travel material on the city and country! Our two days with Gerald in Edinburgh really made our trip in Britain worth while. We felt truely welcome in an amazing country and made to feel at home. The B&B itself was also incredible in that it included everything that we could think of, internet access, fully stocked bathrooms, comfortable beds, movies and books to borrow, and not to mention an incredible assortment of food for breakfast. When I return to Scotland, which will hopefully will be soon, I would definitely go to Scotland just to visit Gerald.
