I arrived in Edinburgh on a wild and windy nights after storms and rain hoping I was going to stay in a comfortable place. The taxi drove me to 'Gerald's PLace, Abercromby Place which is situated in the New Town - the most elegant old part of Edinburgh and very near the centre. Gerald gave me a warm welcome and led me into his part of the beautiful house where he lives. He has a beautiful home full of interesting pictures and my room was warm, very comfortable and fitted out with all the extras you could want with a spotless batnroom for your own use next door. Gerald was on the Scottish news on TV that night as it happened being feted as a prize winning B&B owner. The film of him cooking breakfast led me to break my usual rule and ask for scrambled egg and bacon in the morning. Delicious! Not to mention the organic muesli and fresh fruit compote made by Gerald that morning in his lovely new electric fruit mixer machine. I would recommend this delightful B&B especially for people who want the personal touch which will make their stay in Edinburgh special.

We wanted to visit our son who is at Edinburgh University and needed a central location.
Found Geraldsplace while browsing the internet and what a find.
Gerald gave us a wonderful welcome and we immediately felt at home.
Our room was very comfortable and breakfast the following morning excellent.
We have passed Geralds name on to many friends and could'nt recommend him more highly.

I was back in Edinburgh on business and had a lovely stay. I had to make an early start on the Monday and Gerald got up specially to offer breakfast, which was very welcome and delicious. The room itself was comfortable, warm (important in January!) and had nice touches such as refridgerated filter water. I will certainly stay again on my next visit to Scotland.

My daughter and I stayed with Gerald Della Porta in December of 2006. We had been traveling for a few days and Gerald found at his door some very bedragled travelers. I have never in my life felt so welcomed by this gracious host. He has thought of every amenity for his guests to make them feel comfortable, and care free. My daughter and I found ourselves unexpectantly homeless as we were about to leave Gerald's beautiful home, our next stop was cancelled due to travel difficulties, Gerald went above and beyond his duties by obtaining another lovely place for us to stay (his was booked of course!) and even helping us to this new location by carrying some of our belongings. This man is a true Hospitality Giant in this field, and my college age daughter decided to pursue this type career later in her life. I think that is probaly the highest compliment that can be made about our friend Mr. Della Porta. Many thanks, and believe me leave your troubles at Gerald's front door, they will be taken off your shoulders!

We have just come back from a lovely weekend away @ the best B&B in edinburgh. As soon as you are greeted by gerald you feel right at home. The location is excellent for Princes St. and surrounding places of interest.
Breakfast is a treat in it's self with every sort of cereal available ( organic ) and a real scottish breakfast which will see you through the day.
Gerald will help you with places to eat and visit.
Once again a great place to stay and we will be booking again soon for 2008.
