Let's start with what a delightful man Gerald is. He makes you feel like family.
We arrived late on a Friday night and were greeted by Gerald at the door. He gave us the brief tour and showed us our room. After asking what our interests were, he made some suggestions for places to visit and left us to look over the maps and magazines he sets out in the room. Breakfast was amazing (though the mango juice caught my husband by surprise- he thought it was orange!), but how great is it that he has something as exotic as mango juice! Several kinds of cereals, yogurts, bread, eggs, and meats, you name it. It was enough to keep us both until dinner. The room was very comfortable, with a private bathroom. I always travel with my own toiletries so I can't speak to what he had, only that there seemed to be enough of everything. There were yummy little shortbread biscuits in the room as well as coffee and tea. The location is great. We walked everywhere, as you're only a couple blocks from Prince's Street, there were several small restaurants around to choose from as well. We ate at a tapas bar not far from Gerald's that was quite nice. I would without a doubt stay here again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Geraldsplace to any of my friends. Oh, and for every tech-y person, we enjoyed free wireless internet.

Several months ago, we planned a visit to Edinburgh and began checking trip advisor for recommendations. Gerald's Place consistently recieved high ratings and my wife and I decided to make reservations there. When we arrived, it took only a few minutes to determine that all the "good" ratings were true.

We were greeted by Gerald, shown to our room, and given a short orientation to the city. (Earlier, Gerald had sent us a packet of details to help in planning our visit.)

Our room had everything you could ask for including cosmetics, full sized soap, and wash cloths "flannels". Each day our room was cleaned thoroughly and clean towels provided. Our king sized bed was one of the best I have ever slept in.

Breakfast was always fantastic with a variety of cereals and cooked foods. You could spend all morning just eating.
Gerald, Marie, and Justyna were some of the most friendly helpful people you will ever meet.

There was absolutely nothing we did not like about Gerald's Place . We felt that the location was perfect and the cost of staying there was very reasonable. I would recommend that you stay with Gerald but book early. His good reputation keeps his calendar pretty full.

At the end of our week, we felt we were leaving an old friend and certainly plan to stay at Gerald's Place on our next visit to Edinburgh.

My husband and I recently spent a week at Geraldsplace. We chose the b&b based upon the many favorable reviews on tripadvisor. I must say they are all true. Even before you arrive, Gerald's helpfulness begins. He will send you pages of information to aid in planning your trip. Upon arriving, you are made to feel like a welcome houseguest, rather than a client. The room was spotless and had an extremely comfortable bed. There is a minifridge in the room and the bathroom is well-stocked with toiletries. There are tea and coffee making facilities in the room, as well as shortbread biscuits which are replenished daily.
Every morning, Gerald prepared a breakfast that kept us going until dinnertime. There is cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, and an assortment of juices to begin with. After this, Gerald will serve you a delicious cooked breakfast , including eggs, toast, bacon, sausage, tomatoes and mushrooms. Our mornings were spent eating breakfast while chatting with Gerald and our fellow guests.
Geraldsplace is located in an ideal location. The area is lovely and quiet, but within walking distance of so many destinations. We were able to walk to the Castle and the rest of the Royal Mile, as well as the Botanical gardens. On the days we scheduled tours with Rabbies and Timberbush tours, we were able to walk to their offices. We also walked to the Waverly Station the day we traveled to Stirling.
There are many reasons to stay at Geraldsplace, but the greatest is Gerald himself. He is warm and humorous. Gerald is always available, but never intrusive. When we left, we felt we were leaving a friend. If we return to Edinburgh, Geraldsplace will definitely be our destination.

Gerald’s Place is quite honestly the best B&B we’ve experienced. He has gone to exceptional lengths to provide information and confort and service that would allow even the most inexperienced traveler to find their way with ease. The facility is very well situated in the city, clean, comfortable, and easy use. It will be my home base each and every time I’m in Edinburgh. Bruce A. Cates

We spent 3 nights at Gerald's Place in August during the Fringe Festival and enjoyed our stay immensely. The organic breakfasts were delicious and our conversations with Gerald and the other guests were a great start to the day.
Gerald was the perfect host and e-mailed us valuable info about Edinburgh prior to our visit and gave great recommendations for restaurants, events and sight seeing. This was very helpful in planning our itinerary, especially since we were first time visitors to Edinburgh in the midst of the Fringe Festival frenzy. Our only regret was that we didn't stay longer.
