My wife and I found Gerald Dellaporta's B&B on the web, and the pictures and description looked delightful. Upon our arrival after a long plane trip from Canada, train trip from Glasgow, and short walk from Waverley Station, we were not disappointed. Our room was extremely comfortable, beautifully decorated, and above all, quiet. Edinburgh is a city made for walkers and Gerald's is central to everything (sights, amenities, etc). Well-situated near such highlights as Edinburgh Castle, Prince's Street, the Portrait Gallery etc., we made it our headquarters.
The best thing about Gerald's is Gerald himself. He is a very gentle, very hospitable soul who takes great pleasure in assisting people to enjoy the beauty and culture of Edinburgh. A very refined individual with a lovely sense of humour, Gerald (if you don't object) will join you in the great breakfasts that he prepares for you, and contribute to the conversation and your understanding of all things Scottish.
When we left after four nights, we were generally sad to say goodbye to our host, but his warmth and kindness had set the stage for a wonderful visit to Scotland. I would invite you to see for yourself however, as wwe don't think you will be disappointed.
