We've just come back from three wonderful days staying at Geraldsplace in Edinburgh - and we'd recommend it to anyone. We had called one or two "big name" hotels in Edinburgh but found that their staff were not awfully helpful. When we sent an enquiry to Gerald (after reading all the positive reviews on Trip Advisor) we had a courteous, helpful, information packed email back almost immediately.
Practical details:
Our room (en-suite) was a good size and was very well provided for - Fresh milk and filtered water in the fridge, wine glasses and a bottle opener, every type of tea and herbal tea, coffee, biscuits - even a supply of lebkuchen! The bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in, the room was pleasantly cosy and the shower was good and powerful. In addition to this, there was a huge array of books, guides, leaflets and maps covering eveything you could want to do in Edinburgh. There was even a DVD library and a supply of current magazines.
Breakfasts are something Gerald takes particular effort over, sourcing virtually everything from organic or wholefood shops to provide the highest quality ingredients. There's a wide range of fruits, yoghurts and mueslis as well as all the cooked options including thick bacon, meaty sausages, free range eggs, and even haggis or black pudding if you have room.
One other point to make is that Geraldsplace is in an exceptional location - just a few minutes walk from all the main attractions but on a peaceful street.
The exceptional level of service that Gerald gives makes his B&B our favourite place to stay in Edinburgh. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again!
