My wife and I spent 5 nights at Gerald's Place in mid-June. We frequently stay at B&B's when we visit Europe for the personal touch. This is, by far, the best B&B we've ever stayed at. Beginning with the gracious welcome, we knew we picked the right spot. The rooms were large by European standards. The beds were extremely comfortable and perfect after a long journey. The room came equipped with coffee / tea maker, satellite TV, refrigerator with purified water and milk, small decanter of scotch, and all other conveniences. Most of all, it was extremely quiet - we heard no street noise. The room was spotless.
The breakfast was outstanding - eggs to preference, sausage, bacon, fresh fruit, organic cereals, yougarts, fresh juices, tea, coffee, pasteries, home-made jams. We didn't need to eat lunch. Gerald joined us for breakfast and the conversation was wonderful.
Gerald ensured that every touch to his B&B was well thought out and small details were not missed. Unlike most B&B's we've stayed at, he had soap, shampoos, conditioners, even hair gel. He had a laptop solely for guest usage with wifi. Gerald provided numerous recommendations and had a full library of tour guides, and even had bus passes for purchase. The location was outstanding - about 4 blocks to the "Old City".
When we were tired from a long day of touring, we relaxed at the B&B. Most times, we spent time just conversing with Gerald.
Outside of the B&B, Edinburgh is a gorgeous city with numerous sites and a wealth of history. We wouldn't think of staying anywhere else on our next journey to Edinburgh and it was a pleasure to meet Gerald. We've subsequently conversed over e-mail since our return to the States and we've certainly met a new friend.
