My 14yr old son and I stayed a weekend at Gerald's Place in June '09. We spent two weeks traveling around the U.K. and Gerald's Place was by far the most comfortable stay we had. Gerald met us at the door with a smile taking the time to show us around even though he was late for a funeral (very sorry about our arrival time Gerald). He provided us with a map of Edinburgh and information about where to go and how to get around. The train station is about a 10 minute walk with the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle not far past that. Everything we wanted to see was easily in walking distance. Even so, we were so tired the morning we left that Gerald ordered a taxis for us.

The room we had was very comfortable and very charming. We had a private bath, refridgerator, TV/DVD, WiFi (Gerald even provides a laptop) and to be honest I can't remember what else. We wanted for nothing. I felt like I was in a five star luxery hotel. Gerald made breakfast each morning with a wide range of choices. There was far too much food for me to eat and it was the best eating on our trip. My son, the picky eater, loved it so much he says I should learn to cook like Gerald. The next time I go to Edinburgh, Gerald's Place will be my first choice.

We travel a fair amount. Recently spent 3 weeks in the U K--staying exclusively in B + Bs. 5 in all. Without a doubt, Gerald's place in Scotland was our favorite. Gerald is such a warm and generous host. We are trying to figure out a return visit. J + L

From the moment you arrive, Gerald welcomes you into his home and gives you an overview of everything you need (local attrations, details about the room you are staying in,etc.). Breakfast was great and he had everything you need (eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, fresh fruits, cereals, yogurts, fresh juices, etc.). The location is perfect just a short walk to the Royal Mile. He has everything you need from magazines to books to all the shower and bathroom toiletries. He also has a laptop that you can use, in case you need to access your email, check in to a flight, etc.. We had the room with an en suite bathroom and the bathroom was big. It was also new. We had a regular sized bath tub to shower in, which was great since in other countries we have seen much smaller bathrooms and shower facilities. I can go on and on about how wonderful Gerald's Place is. Other reviews will back up my praise. Look no further, Gerald's Place is your home away from home.

My husband and I just returned from a sunny 16 days in Scotland. Our first 6 days we spent at Gerald's Place. From the moment Gerald welcomed us we felt at home. It was our first visit to Edinburgh and Gerald provided us with so much information on places to visit, restaurants and maps,too.
Our room was everything that we had hoped for - an incredibly comfy bed, wonderful cotton sheets, wine, teas, shortbread,etc.,etc.
The breakfasts were amazing - muesli, fresh fruits, yogurts,eggs,bacon,sausages even smoked salmon! Gerald found out that my favourite yogurt was rhubarb (not available in Canada) and went out of his way to replace it when it was finished.
The location of Gerald's is close to restaurants, shops,art galleries and sights. We could walk everywhere.
We hope to return to Edinburgh next year and will definitely stay at Gerald's Place. Gerald is the ultimate host.
