I'm a very experienced traveler and have stayed at many hotels in different parts of the world. I have to say that Gerald's place is one of the best. I was very well taken care of by Gerald. He made sure that I had everything I needed and was comfortable. I felt like I was staying with a family, that's how nice Gerald treated me.

The location is unbeatable. It's in the "new" part of town, but right next to the medieval old town (a 10 min. walk), so you have the best of both worlds. There are many restaurants close by. On the street perpendicular to the one where Gerald's Place is there's an Italian, Greek, Turkish, Moroccan and Scottish restaurants in addition to some cafes and a couple of pubs with live music. And all this right next to the quite street where Gerald's Place is!

My room was very nice, clean and comfortable. The mattress was so comfortable that I slept like a baby every night. He has wireless internet connection, so I had no trouble getting online.

Also, the breakfast was something special. Every morning Gerald prepared breakfast himself and in addition to eggs, different kinds of cereal, toast and many other things, he always had something special, like fresh strawberries, and smoked salmon (not the kind you buy in a supermarket).

Finally, I have to mention that Gerald is a very interesting person. He himself has traveled extensively and has many fascinating stories to tell. You can never get bored with him.

This is only a short review because we feel everything has been said before.
We arrived at Tuesday 9.20am and were greeted by Gerald like old friends with a warm; welcoming smile .Our room was ready and Gerald showed us to it, the room was immaculate with a huge bed and flat screen T V.

.Gerald attention to detail is amazing our room had tourist maps, books, and everything you will need for a wonderful stay in Edinburgh There are 12 different types of Tea, 3 types of Coffee and also a refrigerator in the room with water jug and a large bottle of milk, so you can make as many cups of tea or coffee as you like.
The bathroom is spotlessly clean with a bath and a power shower over it

The location, in a charming Georgian street is ideal. Very quiet but the hustle and bustle of Princess Street is only seven minutes' walk. .There are good Restaurants and shops which are all within easy walking distance. Gerald is a really friendly, and helpful person his knowledge on Edinburgh is second to none.

Gerald was away for two days visiting his children in London so his Sister Gloria looked after us. Gloria had run her own hotel for many years and was just as warm and welcoming as Gerald.
Breakfast is something to look forward to with smoked salmon, oatmeal, fresh fruit, yogurt, eggs, bacon, tomatoes, tea, coffee, and several juices and Gerald’s fresh locally made bread.
We stayed for three nights at Gerald’s. At breakfast on the last morning we asked Gerald if it would be ok to leave our luggage as our flight wasn’t until 7pm .He said he would be out for most of the day, but to keep our key and leave our luggage. Gerald also let us use the bathroom in the hallway to freshen up before leaving for the airport when we returned for our suitcases. If I had to sum up what makes Gerald's Place so good it’s Gerald himself.

Four of us from California stayed at Gerald's for three nights in early May 2008--before we set off on a two week Scottish walking holiday. We had a glorious time. Gerald is not only very hospitable, but he also offers comfortable accommodations. Great beds, great shower, and great breakfast. And his place is conveniently located--within walking distance of just about everything you would want to see in beautiful Edinburgh.

I highly recommend it.

My husband and I, and my two older teen-aged children stayed at Gerald’s Place for 5 days during the second week of June 2008. We loved Edinburgh, it is a beautiful city! What made our visit more than special, however, was our stay at Gerald’s Place. As has been mentioned before, the reason Gerald’s Place is so special is the owner himself, Gerald. Gerald is a treasure! After a hectic train trip from London we were weary and tired. Gerald welcomed us with open arms and open heart (and also a lovely bottle of wine and a large box of delicious chocolates as well).

It is hard to know where to begin as there are so many wonderful things to point out. Let me start with Gerald’s lovely B & B. It is on a quiet street in the New Town area of Edinburgh and across the street are the lovely Queen St. Gardens. It is within a short walk of Princes St and beyond. Gerald has his own lovely “garden” full of pretty flowers and plants in quaint containers that make his entrance so charming! The guest rooms themselves are beyond comfortable…I wished I could take his mattresses home with us…they were so plush and comfy that we were reluctant to wake up in the morning. Each room has a tea tray with everything you need to make tea, coffee, or cappuccino along with packets of delicious shortbread which are replaced each day. There is a small refrigerator in each room stocked with organic milk (delicious!) and filtered water. One of the bedrooms is ensuite, while other has a bathroom that is right next to the bedroom and both are absolutely spotlessly clean. Both bedrooms have new “state of the art” flat screen televisions with many channels. The bathrooms have excellent power showers and all the toiletries one could possibly ever need. There is a laptop available for guest use which was invaluable to us in planning our daily activities and for checking in with our airline the day we left.

One of the major highlights of a stay at Gerald’s Place is the breakfast. We have never been fed so well in our entire lives! Gerald offers organic mueslis and cereals, hot oatmeal, fresh fruit and yogurt, home made fruit smoothies and juices and that is only the beginning! He also gave us a lovely hot breakfast as well with scrambled eggs, bacon (Scottish-style), sausages, beans, grilled tomatoes, and on request, Gerald offers such delicacies as black pudding and haggis among others! He also offers wonderful toast from bread that is baked especially for him. All this along with tea, coffee, and wonderful marmalades and jams….we rarely needed to eat again for hours afterward! Gerald is very flexible about breakfast times and really went above and beyond the call of duty every day that we stayed with him. He sent us off on more than one day when we had a very early tour with extra muffins and bananas.

Another plus…Gerald is an absolute font of information on Edinburgh and the surrounding area. He gave us an overview of the city and many of its attractions by email before we even arrived which was extremely helpful. He will arrange restaurant reservations, and has bus passes and tour passes available for purchase (which saved us a lot of time and hassle).

There are lots of “nice” B & B’s out there, but in our experience, none have the personal touch that Gerald’s Place has. We would absolutely recommend it to anyone considering a stay in Edinburgh…it is truly a wonderful experience!

My son and I spent a week in Edinburgh with day trips and a good bit of family research. Gerald could not have been more helpful or have provided more information and assistance. He gave the B&B the feel of a good home base from which we could venture out into a City and country new to both of us.
Without reservation, Gerald’s Place will be our “home base” each and every time we visit anywhere near the Edinburgh area.
The value, accommodations, and service were exceptional and the finest we’ve encountered bare none. Truly one of the best parts of the experience.
