During our recent week long vacation in Edinburgh, we stayed at Gerald's. I am so happy I chose this place because I don't think I could have chosen a better place to stay. Gerald is awesome and just about the friendliest person you could ever meet. My husband and I even brought our 3 year old son and Gerald was extremely accomodating with our additional needs with our son.

When we arrived on our first day, Gerald welcomed us with open arms and gave us tips on jet lag and that helped us out tremendously. Gerald makes a superb gourmet breakfast with all details thought of. Breakfast consisted of cooked oats, various types of granolas, yogurt, fruit, jams, eggs, haggis, beans on toast, tea, coffee, etc. It was amazing! He even was so thoughtful about putting together a little booster chair for my son.

Our room great too. It had everything in there so it was so nice not packing all that extra stuff in our luggage. The room had everything you need and even extra things you don't really need, but that are super nice to have anyway.

Each day during breakfast, we would ask Gerald about where we should go and he always gave us great ideas and helped us get bus tickets, tour bus tickets, etc. He provided a wealth of information that I know we could have never received at an ordinary hotel. Gerald's Place is located on a beautiful street in New Town and walking distance to the sights and bus stops - exellent location.

I hated leaving the beautiful city and Gerald and sure hope to go again soon and when we do, we will be staying at Gerald's!!

Our stay at Geraldsplace during our short visit to Edinburgh was a lovely experience especially as we have never stayed at a B&B before. It was a delightful and cosy place , felt like it was from home to home. The room was very comfortable , clean and it was well stocked with all the different herbal teas that we would like to have and which we had at home. It had all the things we needed in the room . Breakfast time was great as we had the opportunity to get to know Gerald in an informal way. The breakfast was yummy and the choice of cereals was great . The organic breakfast suited as down to the ground as that's we had at home so we really felt that its was like from home to home. The location was ideal as places of interest , eating places and shops were all within walking distance. Gerald , himself was such a friendly, helpful person who gave us a very warm welcome , was so informative about Edinburgh and supply us with maps and other reading materials to help us explore Edinburgh.Well, many thanks to Gerald for making our short visit to Edinburgh a very enjoyable memorable one.

My friend and I found Geralds Place to be an extremely convenient and comfortable place to stay and explore Edinburgh. Gerald was in Paris but his sister Gloria was lovely and took great care of us. The rooms were comfortable and access to a wireless laptop was a very nice amenity so we could check train schedules and email family and friends. It is located fairly conveniently to Waverly Station (about a 10 minute walk) and very convenient to Princes Street and lots of restaurants, shops and the visitor center. There are several restaurants that are just around the corner and up the street from Gerald's. It is located on a nice quiet street opposite a very nice park. Breakfast was delicious (great toast) and very hearty. There were a lot of very nice touches such as lots of tourist information, DVD player in room and selection of movies, magazines, and books. TripAdvisor did not steer us wrong.

We had the pleasure of staying with Gerald for four nights in February of 2008 and highly recommend his comfortable, well-situated inn to anyone with the good fortune of traveling through Edinburgh in the future.

Geraldsplace is an interesting B&B tucked into the New Town section of Edinburgh. The value is great, and Gerald really does go out of his way to provide a welcoming environment and an abundance of information (sometimes, this was a bit overwhelming!). However, his expertise is great for folks who are seeking direction in how to spend their time, especially if interested in the arts and opera.

Our room was very comfortable. There really is a wide selection of teas and coffees, and you really are given a welcome gift. Plus, there is a variety of toiletries and a hair dryer available, which decreases what you need to pack in your luggage. On the down side, we would have liked a good ole' plain bar of soap, rather than the lilacy shower gel. We probably could have gotten one, but didn't want to complain when all else was fine.

Gerald does go out of his way to feed his guests plenty of breakfast items. I highly suggest being open with any requests you may have, in order to better explore a variety of hot foods. There is an ample array of fruits and oats available as cold items.

We did have the same problem that the other reviewer noted, which was that our first night was very cold. Be sure to tell Gerald not to turn off the central heat, as this was what happened when we were there. It was not a problem after we mentioned something, although the hot water in the shower also mysteriously cut out during our first night there.

People considering staying at Geraldsplace should be fairly fit, or enjoy walking. It is not a long walk into town (5 minutes to the bars and shops in New Town, ten minutes to Old Town), but it is all uphill. This can make a traveler's legs weary very quickly! The upside to the location is that Geraldsplace is on a very safe, clean street and just across from public gardens. There are no problems with nighttime noise.

Overall, I would recommend Geraldsplace for families or older couples. Younger singles/couples may find it more convenient to be closer to the nightlife.
