We used Trip Advisor to find a spot in Edinburgh—Gerald's Place had the best reviews, so we booked for 2 nights. His establishment was spotless and had every facility that you could wish for. We felt very comfortable and at ease while we stayed there. This is a small and cozy place to stay--only two guest rooms, and there is the same comfort level which one would feel as a pampered guest in the home of a dear and close relative. It is filled with a wonderful ambience. While the B&B itself is special, its host, Gerald, is even more so. He leaves no stone unturned in making sure that his guests have everything that they need from a full supply of soaps, shampoos and creams to a hair dryer. Honestly, you don't have to bring a thing. Gerald supplies it all. We had a twin room (2 beds) with tempurpedic pillows, awesome mattresses, warm down blankets, tea service, TV, hair-dryer, (so we didn't need our own converter).

After a spectacular night of sleep, you wake up to a wonderfully fresh and made to order breakfast by Gerald himself! He had 3 types of granola mix, hot oatmeal, fresh fruit, yogurt, eggs, bacon, tomatoes, tea, several juices, fresh locally made bread...so much food! Even better than the food was conversing with Gerald; he shared fascinating stories of how he ended up in Edinburgh as a B&B owner.
We had such a wonderful time at Gerald's Place! Staying with Gerald was like staying with family, and we appreciated every little detail he attended to. We really enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to recommend this B&B to anyone!

We have just returned from two wonderful nights at Geralds place and we are convinced that it could well be the best place that we have ever stayed.
We booked after reading the other reviews on trip advisor and i must agree with them. From the moment Gerald opened the door on our arrival until the final hug when we left we were treated like a part of his family and welcomed into his home with open arms.
The accomodation is first class with the biggest most comfortable bed i have ever slept in, everything was spotlessly clean and there were even razors shaving gel shampoo even a pack of painkillers in case you had a headache. A complementary bottle of wine was provided as well as three types of coffee lots of different teas and hot chocolate. There was also fresh organic milk in the fridge in the bedroom.
I cannot end without mentioning the breakfast which was a feast of delicious organic produce from the different varieties of oats to the fantastic eggs bacon sausage and delicious coffee all freshly made and cooked by the wonderful host Gerald.
If you are planning a trip to edinburgh treat yourself to a stay at Geralds you will not regret it.
Lastly a big thanks to Gerald himself for making us feel so welcome and for making our trip so special.

We stayed at Gerald's Place for one night, largely based on the very positive reviews on Trip Advisor. The B & B is in a quiet location yet only a few minutes away from all the main attractions.

The property is stunning, Gerald is the perfect host, very amenable and happy to share his extensive knowledge of the city. Our room was extremely comfortable, with a very large bed and a huge array of amenities.

The breakfast was very substantial and lovingly prepared, wonderful cereals, lots of fruit as well as a range of delicious hot food.

Our only regret was not being able to stay longer on this occasion.

Gerald is a real gem and his "Place" is a very special place to stay.

The first impression upon entering Gerald's Place is that you're being welcomed into someone's home and not just a regular BnB. We arrived fairly late in the evening, having travelled many hours on the road from London, and our host was most gracious to us.

Our room was very cosy, with the most comfortable beds and finest linen. There was ready access to a laptop with internet, which we appreciated a lot as some of us were overseas travelers.

I was most impressed with the number of books and leaflets available about Edinburgh and local culture and lifestyle. And I foud it especially generous that the bathroom was stocked with toiletries in case we'd forgotten something.

Oh, I cannot forget the breakfasts! We were spoilt for choice with the array of good-quality, healthy options available. And Gerald was truly helpful when it came to specific dietary requirements. It would be an experience on its own for anyone who relishes a fully-cooked or continental first meal to start the day!

The location was ideal - a short walk away from the city centre, and there were plenty of social night spots not to far away either.

The decor was splendid; the place was immaculate; our host so friendly. Professional, personal and heart-warming. I could not imagine a better stay in Edinburgh!

From the moment we were greeted by Gerald with a wonderful warm hug we felt we became a member of his extended family. He took time to explain everything he had on offer and to give us all the information we needed with regards to places to see, etc., He assured us that if there was anything at all that we needed, he would do his utmost to provide it. At the end of his greeting he offered us the choice of chocolate or wine - there was even a fridge in our room to hold these delights, together with a couple of pints of milk, 12 different types of tea, 3 types of coffee and hot chocolate - amazing service!!
The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and the beds were to die for. Even us couple of insomniacs had 3 nights of blissful sleep and each morning were awoken with the delightful smell of breakfast. A truly organic feast. We have never seen so much choice at breakfast time in a B & B in our lives before and felt we had truly gone to heaven.
And, where else would a B & B offer you free use of a laptop to check your emails. - such service is, we think, unheard of.
The location was brilliant - a delightful Georgian Terrace opposite gardens, 10 minutes walk from Waverley Train Station, buses and shops and Edinburgh is such a lovely compact City that it is very accessible on foot and public transport.
Words cannot describe what a wonderful time we had and when we left to go home it was quite a wrench because Gerald had made us feel so welcome into his beautiful home.

  • Disliked — We liked everything - nothing to dislike at all
