Gerald's Place was a wonderful stay for us. We originally booked 4 nights and extended it to 6. Gerald personally and warmly greeted us as we arrived from our long transAtlantic flight. He was thorough and helpful. Everything was clean and the room was well equipped with many extras like tea, biscuits and generously stocked fridge. The bed was particularly comfortable with high quality bedding. There was also a complimentary lap top and internet hook up available. Gerald treated us to a fine complimentary sample of whiskey. It was very conveniently located near bus and rail terminals and Gerald helped us book tours. Gerald's place was an easy walk to great shopping, fine restaurants, lovely gardens, the Castle and other historical sites.
Breakfasts were both flexible and superb. Bottom line was Gerald's Place was a delight and figured prominently in our wonderful vacation in Scotland.

Gerald's Place is as warm and charming as Gerald himself. We were warmly welcomed with a hug and a wonderful bottle of red wine: both of which were appreciated after traveling! Gerald's is warm, romantic and centrally located, plus he is knowledgeable about your needs as a traveler who is new to the area. We have already recommended Gerald’s' Place to several of the friends who are planning to travel to Edinburgh and recommended it as the "only" place to consider staying.

During a recent visit to England, my wife and I took time out for a brief interlude in Edinburgh, booking a 36 hour stay at Gerald's Place, a charming bed & breakfast conveniently situated near the city center and just a few minutes by taxi from the train station.

The property was well-appointed beyond expectations and Gerald's art collection was of mini-museum quality. Breakfast was both creative and appetizing particularly the generous portion of smoked Scottish salmon.

Host Gerald was especially helpful in recommending and booking reservations for meals and tours and providing enticing local commentary. His lunch choice, Fishers Bistro, was a major success with some of the most tasty mussels and other seafood specialties we have ever enjoyed. Prices were a great value. And it was just a short walk from the B&B.

Not so for the dinner at another neighborhood spot, Haldanes, which, while offering a pleasant setting and adequate service was fell short in value. We found the servings niggardly (a "rack" of lamb turned out to be three small chops at about US $42 US). Price tag for a cup of plain coffee-not cappacino, latte or expresso: US$6.

Over all, Gerald's Place and its location proved ideal for a few days in Edinburgh.

We went to Edinbrugh for an extended weekend to see the Rugby World Cup. We found such wonderful reviews of Gerald's Place via TripAdvisor, that we really wanted to give it/him a try. From the very beginning, Gerald went out of his way to answer questions promptly and just make everything easy. This continued through our entire stay. He greeted us at the door, made us so welcome, and then gave us a great overview of the city to start us on our explorations. The breakfasts each morning were all that you could want, need, expect - and primarily organic to boot. The woman working there on the weekends, Analia could not have been any friendlier or helpful when directing us to Murray Field for the match. Overall, our room was spacious enough, the bed comfortable, the bathroom all that you need (plus toilletries if you forget anything - or TSA claims anything), it was immaculately clean, and we can honestly say that Gerald has thought of and carries through on all the "little" things that make staying at a B&B so much nicer than a big box hotel/motel. Can't say enough good about Gerald or his wonderful B&B - definitely give him a try if you're in town.

We have used Gerald's Place three times now for extended stays for the Edinburgh International and Fringe Festivals. Staying with Gerald is like old-home week with a dear friend. The bed is marvelous, the cleanliness of the room and bath is excellent. What has been pleasing about the visit is that Gerald is always trying to make it better, like adding the free laptop WiFi capability. Gerald not only makes certain he can greet his guests, but on this visit, with British Airways losing our luggage for days, Gerald not only made phone calls to BA on this but went to the Airport to run down the luggage. He acquired bus passes for us and tickets to the Military Tattoo. His phone was always available for us to call for reservations, he even made a dinner reservation for us. There are excellent restaurants just a short walk away (Bellini's, Haldanes, Magnum). The bus stop which gives you access to almost all of Edinburgh is at the end of the block. Fringe and Festival venues are not that far away and Princes street with all its shops is only four blocks away - a short walk or bus trip. There are 4 ATM's within a three block radius. The freshly cooked to order full English breakfast is a gourmet treat. Gerald's Place is the B&B to use, without a doubt.
