“Not bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

The location is great, right next to the train station. The staff was very nice and helpful, but the room wasn't really confortable. I also hated the shower/bathroom scheme. The breakfast is good and, overall, I think the hostel is pretty good, considering it was the cheapest one available in Edinburgh.

Loved the staff Jess and tessa where amazing, this place is wonderful if you want to get great advice. Not the best hostel in town I'm sure but the people make the place and we had so much fun. And it is really central--!!!! :)

I stayed here early in May and then ended up coming back for a second time in June since i enjoyed it so much! The location is great and considering price the rooms were quite nice as well. But the staff was the main draw here, they were truly fantastic, and made the whole experience amazing! If I ever come back to Edinburgh again I know where I'll be staying.

I stayed here because the previous hostel I booked at had overbooked me, so organised this one for me.
It's by far not the best hostel I've stayed in, but I think Edinburgh just doesn't have particularly nice hostels...
Expensive considering the actual hostel, but similar in price to other Edinburgh hostels.

I was in a four bed dorm, which was so tiny, you could barely move around each other. The luggage storage was under the bed, which was secure if you brought a padlock, but my cage was broken....
The actual room seemed quite grimy, lots of dust and debris on the floor.
The bathroom was foul; poor lighting, the floor got wet and stayed wet, the shower was shockingly bad (one of those white boxes, but it sprayed boiling hot then freezing cold the whole time, with horrid water pressure, and the shower itself was tiny).
The sound from the bar downstairs travelled right up into the room, which was unbearably hot if you kept the windows shut all night.
Wifi is only in a chill out lounge and cafe, not in the rooms.
You had to pay for luggage storage after checking out, but it was secure in lockers.
Breakfast was included, but was very basic, and they ran out of food and cutlery by the end of it.

The redeeming factors; Really friendly, lovely staff. Great location to everything, and nice and secure rooms.

Basically you get what you pay for. It is cheap and the place reflects that. Building and rooms a bit shabby but friendly staff very helpful. Quietish during the week but at weekends it's a party hostel. No self catering though a free breakfast and certain discounts on food and some drinks. Female only dorms if wanted. I met some lovely folk. Nightclub on street outside very noises. Earplugs help! Great location for old town, royal mile, trains, buses, princes street, grass market, and night clubs. If you want quiet and exceptionally clean maybe go somewhere else..

The accomodation is a little grungy (not in a bad way) and simpler than a lot of other similarly-priced hostels, but St Christopher's is well worth it for the fabulous location and friendly staff. Would definately stay there again!

It is quite a nice hostel. The staff were amazing! Be aware that there is only wifi on the two bottom levels (chill out lounge and cafe) and also, the toilets/showers were co-ed. I met fantastic people in my dorm and the location was amazing! The location really made the hostel fantastic.
I would recommend this hostel to friends.

Room Tip: Maybe choose a room on a lower level to get wifi? But it might be a bit louder.
