“If you're lucky with your room, you'll have a good time!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

I have stayed here three times, one in a 6 bed female only en suite (which was very comfortable and quite clean), one time in a mixed 14 bed en suite (very clean, great atmosphere and very spacious) and in a 6 bed mixed dorm (disgustingly dirty, really loud, not working power sockets, very hot, so you had to leave the windows open, which was nearly impossible, as the nearby pub blows its old fat "fumes" directly in the room > my hair smelled really badly even 3 days after my stay, although I washed it twice a day to get rid of the smell...)
The bathroom is moderately clean but the shower doors don't provide much privacy and the toilets were either acceptable or really disgusting (all clogged up with toilet paper or even puke)
The breakfast is alright (but it's for free, so what do you expect),the food at the bar is really nice!
Would stay here again though, because of the amazing location!
Staff is very friendly and helpful at all times (24/7 reception).

The location of this hostel is brilliant, directly across from the train station and a 5 min walk from the bus depot. Arriving the staff were indifferent and don't think any of them ever smiled. It's a hostel, but there is no free lugage storage, you pay for lockers on the 1st floor (which is a little cheap) and the becasue it's a chain I feel like it lost a bit of its charm that you find with smaller hostels. There are so many other places in Edinburgh I would try another next time.

Room Tip: Try not to stay on the fisrt floor as the pub can be noisy at night.

There is nothing much better than getting out of the train station looking across the street and seeing your hostel. As soon as I checked in I knew it was going to be a good time. The staff were all really friendly and made you feel like an old friend staying at their place and I have to give a big shout to Grant who clearly loves his job. There was a pub crawl with its second stop at this hostel…….which is always an added bonus. The hostel is nice and close to the royal mile and lots of pubs (big surprise). Overall the hostel was clean. I just can’t say enough good things about the staff and location. I would highly recommend anyone staying there and I would gladly stay there again!

St Christopher’s Edinburgh is really well located near the train station and the Royal Mile. It’s clean and has everything you can ask for in a basic hostel apart from hot water. We stayed for 3 nights, and the water was freezing cold every morning. I did manage to get one luke warm shower but that was at 3am.

We complained to the reception staff but they said that they were at full capacity and we needed to wait 30 minutes for it to reheat. The hot water never materialised.

We also had a few issues with a room key that they weren’t able to fix. Which was frustrating as we had to run up several flights of stairs to consistently find that it wasn’t’ working.

So if you want cheap, convenient and you don’t mind running up and down the stairs this is a good place to stay. But if you value a hot shower as an essential way to wake up and recover from the previous night’s indiscretions then I would avoid.

We stayed for two nights in this Edinburgh hostel. It's location is very nice, right opposite to the train station and vey close to the city centre. However, our first night was not really great. The shower bar was broken and the cover of the user panel was broken, very unsafe. We got a duvet for just 1 person, while having a double bed. Also the matrass of one of us was upside down, which we found out in the middle of night. The staff was really nice and the problems were quickly solved the next day. The atmosphere in the hostel and the bar is very good.

Me and a friend stayed at St Christopher's Inn in june 2012. We stayed in a four person room. The room was good, nothing to complane about. The location is great and the prices are good, and that's why we chose this hostel. The staff was friendly and had a lot of tourist information. The hostel also has a big pub which was great! We spent a lot of time there eating, drinking and watching football. The only downside with our stay was the breakfast, it was very unhealthy and basic with white bread, jam, chocolate and butter. I wish it had been some wholemeal bread, vegetables and juice.
