I recently stayed in the Glasshouse only because the hotels I normally stay in in Edinburgh were fully booked. To be honest, I wasn't really expecting that much as I wasn't very familiar with the hotel. The long and short of it is I was completely blown away. The hotel sets itself apart firstly in its extremely modern design and architecture. With a blend of modern materials with original stone work it truly is unique. I was greeted on arrival by a very jovial doorman who immediately took my luggage and welcomed me to the Glasshouse only to be then greeted by a smiling receptionist who was both very friendly and professional. She managed to make dinner reservations for me on the spot and even printed out some reviews for me to read as I wasn't familiar with the restaurants (which turned out to be great!!). I was escorted to my room by a helpful porter who took my luggage and explained the room to me (he even noticed I had a laptop and asked me if I wanted him to bring me an ethernet cable)
The room itself was extremely comfortable and modern. The bed, like others have said, is probably the most comfortable I have ever slept in, if I didn't live so far I would seriously enquire as to where I could get one for my home. The bathroom was well appointed as well with heated floors and mirror and a great frameless glass shower. All in all the bedrooms just blew me away compared to the other hotels I have stayed in before. To top it off, the roof top garden was completely unexpected. You just don't feel like you are in the middle of a city centre. Breakfast, once again, leaves no disappointment. I have never seen such a lavish breakfast buffet!
All in all, nothing even compares to my stay here. From the staff, to the bedroom, to the general service I received, thank you Glasshouse!!

Stayed here last weekend for our wedding anniversary on one of the hotel’s special weekend packages and I must say it was magnificent. We were upgraded to a suite which opened up onto the stunning rooftop terrace – just a shame about the Edinburgh weather! Everything about the room was top notch from the size of the bed to the bathroom with Jacuzzi AND wet-room. The staff were all friendly and courteous. We also had breakfast in bed on the Sunday morning which turned up bang on time and went down a treat!

We stayed for 2 nights in a standard room, very clean, very comfortable with everything you need and good service from the staff. We booked through expedia and paid half the price of what we where quoted by the hotel direct ! It is a very stylish hotel however not much soul - there is no restaurant or served bar (it is self service?). Breakfast wasn't included in the rate but we chose to skip it at £16.95 and opted for a good lunch out instead. The Hotel itself is basically an upmarket Travel Inn.

You do have to go out to eat in the evenings however there is plenty to choose from we can certainly recommend the Haldanes Restaurant, 39a Albany Street - its about 5 minutes from the hotel beneath a georgian hotel in a residential street so you do have to look out for it but the food is fantastic although a bit on the high side approx £26 for aberdeen angus steak, although it is frequented by the famous, another good one is the witchery and for lunch the Whighams Wine Cellars is good value and good food and handy location on Charlotte Square so you can shop all the way down princes street then stop for lunch and return along George street !

I would stay again because of the location, however if you want a more personal service and actually see staff and other guests then maybe this hotel isn't for you !

An acceptable business hotel - nothing to distinguish it from the competition, and I'd been expecting something a bit more interesting. I'd stay here again (and I'd stay here over and above the terrible Balmoral), but don't get excited about coming here.

We stayed at the Glasshouse as part of our honeymoon. First the good things - fantastic location, beautifully designed, friendly staff, great breakfasts, most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. However, I do agree with other reviewers that for a '5-star' hotel, it's little hit and miss.
We ordered newspapers to be delivered every morning which were totally forgotten about. When we reminded them on the third day they apologised and said we wouldn't be charged (!) but no compliementary papers after that, which you'd expect.
Also, the service at breakfast on the Sunday was pretty poor. It was clear they didn't have nearly enough staff. We were left waiting for ages as others around us were served. Also the scrambled eggs were burnt.
Our breakfast was included in the price and on other days, to be fair it was amazing. I've never stayed in a place that offered unlimited free smoked salmon as part of the buffet.
A quick word on the 'honesty' bar: someone had added their drinks to our tab. The hotel did take off the drinks when we came to settle up but the system is very open to abuse. You simply write down what you've ordered and your room number in a book that's left out in the bar.
On the whole though, I would recommend this hotel provided the price was right. We booked online and paid just over £100 a night plus breakfast which I think is fair.
