We booked a 5 day stay at the Glasshouse as a romantic city break. The room was a studio/suite and we booked directly through the hotel [£225 incl breakfast].The room was good but I must admit we were not overly impressed. We had several issues with the hotel and were not pleased with the responses that we had. The first issue was that our plug in the bath was not working [a twist mechanism on the side) and we were unable to have a bath before going out. Despite two phonecalls and a trip to reception we had still had no joy. We went out briefly and on our return, still no-one had been to fix it - despite promises. Eventually after a third "can I speak to the manager" phonecall, we had a young lad come up and fix it - no manager and no apologies. My other half was so angry when this young lad arrived with no screwdriver!!! Again we waited and eventually with much blundering it was fixed. We also had an issue at Sunday Breakfast. Short staffed; we were left for 45 mins with others arriving after us being served before us. We left [after complaining to the Manager]without breakfast. Yes, it was refunded but nothing else! Not even a free breakfast with compliments.

Please bear in mind that if you have a car [we had rented one] there is only parking at an NCP which was very expensive - despite a small discount from the hotel. Also, only serve breakfast and room service [expensive & basic]. You must go out for evening meals. Not difficult with the location but after a long day slightly aggravating.

Overall an okay experience...but will not return.

One of my two or three most memorable and enjoyable hotel stays ever. The hotel is centrally located for beautiful Edinburgh city center, my suite and my friend's room were beautiful, roomy, and full of comforts and conveniences, including down pillows and comforters, large excellent bathrooms with separate tub and shower, lots of storage space ... everything we could have asked for. (There is some strainge engineering in the shower that makes it easy to accidentally flood the bathroom. But it's a great shower.) The room had a balcony with outdoor seating. The suite had one wall that was floor-to-ceiling window, overlooking a beautiful hillside and picturesque medieval buildings. The staff were all very low-key, polite, and ready to help with anything we needed. Breakfast was not included in the room charge (and was a bit pricey), but it was the nicest breakfast spread (buffet and cooked) I've ever enjoyed at a hotel. I would gladly stay here again.

A tad disappointed. Negative points were: room hadn't been dusted probably since it was built; suite - I don't think so - large room, maybe (certainly not worth paying the extra £75); bathroom had lots of stains everywhere; air conditioning didn't work; shower flooded the bathroom floor; water was most definately brown; water (AND TOILET in our room) was shut off for 5 hours for maintenance, basically told to deal with it.

Yes it's very funky, nice looking, and has a good location, but still feels a little like a hostel (albeit a posh one). Could be so much more.

Opon arrival at the Glasshouse, we were immediately greeted by a very jovial doorman named William. His trilby hat and long black coat making him look more like a gangster than the usual "stuffy" uniformed doormen.

The room was lovely, great bathroom with a very powerful shower, the bed was soooooo comfy, and the patio door out onto the garden would have been very welcome if it hadn't been raining so much. We have promised ourselves to return in the summer and enjoy the rooftop garden.

Irrespective of other reviews, the full scottish breakfast was wonderful, although if it hadn't been in the deal price of the room I wouldn't like to pay £16.95 for any breakfast.

The Honesty bar was interesting, although asking guests to pay £7 for a whisky which they have to serve themselves is, in my opinion, taking liberties.
Take my advise, stay out of that bar, there are so many great pubs nearby there is no need to be ripped off.

Edinburgh itself is a beautiful place. Take your walking shoes and get ready to explore this lovely city. The Royal Mile is beautiful, very quaint with cobbled streets and lovely gift shops, with the Castle standing in pole position at the top.

Best food is served in the pubs on the Royal Mile, The Albanach is fabulous, ( try their wee haggis )

All in all we had a wonderful few days and will definately return,

Thanks to all at the Glasshouse

Oh the architecture, the roof garden, the living fire.... and the flooded bathroom.....
Glasshouse looks good and is suitably hip, however the drainage is an 'aeronautical' vacuum system. All well and good until 1/2 hr before dinner the shower won't drain and you end up damming the door jamb to stop from flooding the room. Not a happy bunny. Then breakfast 'Oh its always this busy Sunday morning' Dohh, (8(1); then lay on extra straff it isn't rocket science. 45 mins to get a cup of coffee and some toast. So overall what should be a top Scottish hotel was a let down I do so hate soap in my eyes and being late for dinner.
