As a newlywed, I wanted to treat my husband to a special birthday treat and arranged an overnight stay in the Glasshouse. We stayed in the GlenMoray suite which had a front bacing balcony which looked out over the bustling Edinburgh streets below.
I cant rave about the hotel enough.

We walked into our suite to find the most spacious and luxurious surroundings, a huge bathtub for 2, lovely toiletries, underfloor heating, slippers and bathrobes, clean and warm. Absolutely massive bed which we didnt want to leave, beautifully made and terribly cosy. Plasma TV, L Shaped leather couch, CD player, balcony with chairs. A table for 2 in which we enjoyed a lovely breakfats (£16.50... eeek!!!).

The Glasshouse is expensive, there is no denying that, we didnt touch the minibar, instead opting to purchase a bottle of bubbly in the local Threshers which we later enjoyed in our room. We splashed out on the breakfast (room service - which cost us an extra £5) and although it was very good, we would have preferred a bigger plateful for what we were paying.

We would go back to the Glasshouse Hotel in a heartbeat.

Have read a couple of negative comments about the staff, have to say that everyone that dealt with us were most polite and courteous.

Picked this hotel due to the reviews and it was right next door to the playhouse theatre where I was attending a concert. First impressions 1st class - arrived early and left bags at reception and met very friendly doorman. When we came back later went to our room which had the cases already there and coats hung in the wardrobe. We were shown to our room by the doorman. Rooms were lovely and has a really comfortable bed. I found the rooms really quiet and as the whole place is carpeted you don't hear other guests moving a round outside.

On the down side - and don't let this detract you - the doorman may have been overly friendly (if there is such a thing! American visitors will be used to this but we in the UK still find this a little uncomfortable). He did look cool in his trendy hat and gave a good recommendation for dinner at a nice Italian across the road.

The honesty bar lacked a bit of atmosphere, but plenty of bars next door in the Omni Centre.

Free morning paper did not arrive.

On balance I would highly recommend this hotel which is very central and just across the road from John Lewis and Harvey Nichols, and also a short walk from Princess St. The rooms are excellent and staff efficient. I booked at Travelocity which had the best rates even when other sites said there were no rooms available.

I stayed at the Glasshouse on a recent business trip to Edinburgh. It was one of the most pleasurable hotel experiences and one of the rare occasions where my expectations were surpassed. I found it to be very quiet, clean and comfortable, and the staff was courteous and attentive. I needed driving directions to a meeting and I found them printed out, with a map, and under my door when I awoke that morning. The continental breakfast was lavish and delicious. The hotel is an approximately 4 to 5 block walk from the Princess Street area and less than a mile from Edinburgh castle. If I ever return to Edinburgh I will stay at the Glasshouse without question.

My wife and I stayed for 5 nights during the Edinburgh Festival. The hotel was superb. The rooms are stunning and well laid out, the staff were very friendl and helpful, the breakfasts excellent and the roof garden astonishing. We will most certainly stay there again next year. Friends who stayed as well were similarly satisfied.

Gripes? The plumbing can be noisy and erratic and the layout is rather eccentric. However, compared with the other quality hotels in Edinburgh which tend to be stuffy and traditional the Glasshouse is a long way ahead.

Unfortunately my husband and I had a terrible stay in the Glasshouse. You need to like very large hotels with very long corridors to stay here.

The rooms are very luxurious and comfortable but the place was badly let down by the staff. The porter did not offer to carry our bags and was most put out that we didn't have any change to tip him with and he snubbed us at every opportunity for the rest of our stay.

We were kept awake until about 3am by an Australian bar situated directly under our room and rang down to the desk to see if we could change room because the hotel was seemingly empty. We were told someone would ring us back but they didn't. When we checked out we complained again but received no apology or even sympathy; just a stony faced manager who looked as if she was overly used to receiving complaints.

We stay in Edinburgh regularly and every other hotel we have ever tried, including much cheaper ones, has been more comfortable and friendly to stay in. I would not recommend the Glasshouse to anyone unless they have sent their staff on customer care training recently.
