“Perfection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

We went there during Easter holidays to get away from the crazy wedding planning home life.

We flew to Edinburgh and got a tram into the city center. The last tram stop is just opposite the Glasshouse.
Our room was beautiful, it had a great view - I bet it is even nicer during summer when everything is green!
We stayed for 2 nights and during one of them we stayed for dinner in because the "Snug" is just too nice not to enjoy it. Food was great, the service impeccable. We also had breakfast at the hotel - the breakfast room is beautiful and the selection of foods was great too. It really caters for all tastes.

The Glasshouse is very central and really doesn't take a long time to walk up to Royal Mile.

The roof top garden tops it all - we sat there one evening looking at the full moon and the stars, it really doesn't get more romantic than that!.

If I was to mentioned one negative it would have to be the bathroom's heated floor - at times it was just a little too much.

However, we had the time of our lives there and certainly would stay there again if we were to go to Edinburgh again!...

Room Tip: good views, perfect location,

Stayed one night to facilitate an all day session in John Lewis the next day. The location for this was perfect, literally across the road.

Very expensive but no different in this respect to other equal quality city centre hotels on a bank holiday weekend.

Room was good, interesting layout and large bathroom. It wasn't spotless, far from what I would call dirty but there was dust on the window sill and a few marks on the chairs. The Shower flooded onto the bathroom floor when used by 2 people in succession.

Interesting layout of the hotel meant we were directed to the 3rd floor to come down to our room on the 2nd. Lovely rooftop terrace / garden.

It was my friends 50th birthday so I thought I would treat her to an afternoon tea, and what a tea it was. A huge choice of teas and we had a glass of prosecco which was lovely. Then came our plates of food, little croissants with egg, a muffin with ham and a filo pastry tartlet with salmon and cream cheese. Then there was chocolate orange scones, a brandy snap with cream and strawberry, macaroons, shortbread, flapjacks choc tarts and a pot of cream and assorted jams. Have to say that that was the best one ever, and we have been to a few other places, definitely a 10/10. Our waitress was very pleasant, sorry I didn't get her name, she got us endless pots of tea. The only negative we have is where it is located. When you arrive you go through a beautiful reception area and a porter escorts you to the lift to the 3rd floor then as you walk along a dark corridor its at the end of it. We both felt it wasn't right, we sat in a dark corridor opposite the bedrooms, our view was arriving guests, housekeeping trolleys, and housekeeping walking past with dirty sheets in their arms, my friend sat at a door that was draughty, there was no music in background. We felt that for such a beautiful building you could do a canopy or a marquee for outside and have it there as it's spectacular views out there. I was a little embarrassed for my friend as this was a treat for a special birthday. Would recommend the menu just not the venue

Dear caz58_13
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback after your recent afternoon tea at The Glasshouse. We aim to offer an afternoon tea with a twist and I will be sure to pass your kind comments on to our Food and Beverage team.
I’m sorry that you did not enjoy using our sung area, perhaps you will be able to come back for dinner in our Observatory restaurant which opens to the public on 9th June.
Kind regards,
Scott McArdle

I stayed at the Glasshouse with my partner to celebrate our anniversary, it was really something special. We were upgraded to a suite and the room was spectacular (to say the least). We had views of the city, our private balcony, a lounge separator and a luxurious bathroom. The breakfast is really amazing and the Observatory has awesome views. Everything is within walking distance! There is a lounge area called 'Snug' we didn't really utilise this space as we weren't completely sure how the self service worked.
My only criticism would be that there are no public toilets on the ground floor (which meant having to go to floor 3 and walking through corridors to locate one).

I spent a couple of nights at this hotel and was very pleased with it. It is a beautiful hotel with great staff. My room was quite large and comfortable. It location right next to Calton Hill was great, and made for an easy walk to Old Town and New Town. I would certainly stay there again.

Odd hotel. Not sure why it has been given 5 stars. Bedrooms very comfortable though we had a noisy heating unit. Went to inform reception next morning but huge queue so just turned it off! Everyone very pleasant but hotel has no soul. The bar is manned now and again or its self service or even locked. 5 stars?? This together with no facilities such as pool or gym makes the hotel very overpriced. When you are just looking for a nice place to stay I would have been just as comfortable in a Premier Inn at a fraction of the cost. Position of the hotel ok, but there are better. Breakfast ok but overpriced for what it is. Didn't eat here, there are numerous fine restaurants in the City.

Dear Steve F,
I was disappointed to read that you were left underwhelmed with your recent stay with us. Had you reported the fault with your heating unit to us we would have endeavoured to have this rectified during your stay.
We do offer full access to the Virgin Active health Spa located next door to the hotel to all of our guests, I apologise that you did not have the opportunity to use this.
I hope that we have the opportunity to welcome you back to The Glasshouse in the future so that you may enjoy our full range of facilities.
Kind regards,
Scott McArdle

My wife and I spent our last night in Edinburgh at the Glasshouse. It is a very nice hotel in a great location in new town. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. It was a good thing that the staff carried our bags to our room or we would have never found it. The layout of the hotel is confusing and we had to take an elevator up and stairs down to get to our room. The room was very nice and very comfortable. We would not stay here if we were staying more than one night. Too hard to manage the steps. Great for young people but a little more of a challenge for us older types.

Room Tip: Ask for a room closer to the front door
