“Loved this hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

The Glasshouse is scattered with modern art--some great, some not so great--has good room service and great views. The beds are soooo comfortable!
It's a short walk from great Scottish food, shopping, and things to see and experience. We spent New Year's enjoying the fireworks from the hotel's overlook. In a junior suite, we had a huge balcony facing street side, my daughter and her husband had a patio opening onto the back lawn and beautiful views.
You can get neck-deep in steaming water in the deep bathtubs, there's a glassed-in shower with great water pressure, the towel rack was heated, and the floor of the bathroom was heated!
We had a wonderful time. Will definitely return.

Room Tip: For a first visit, it would probably be best to choose a room with a view that includes a patio open...

Stayed in the Glasshouse for 3 days. First the good bits… the location is perfect, only 5 minute walk to Princes Street and very easy to get to from Airport (about a 3 minute walk from last tram stop- York Place). The hotel staff are very friendly and the hotel room was spacious and spotless.
The one fault is found was with the layout of the hotel. We had a room on the first floor, however to get to the room, we had to take the lift to 3rd floor, walk down a long corridor and then go down 2 flights of stairs, back down to the first floor (twice carrying our bags). It was completely nonsensical. I thought it was a joke the first time we were brought to our room. It was the most ridiculous hotel layout I have ever seen. We saw another man walking around looking bewildered, wandering along the 3rd floor corridor, trying to find the way to his room on the first floor. Unless you get one of the ‘older’ rooms on the 3rd floor, be prepared for the long trek to your room!!

Dear Jessieeireland,

Thank you for choosing The Glasshouse Hotel for your recent stay in Edinburgh.

Our hotel was designed to allow our guests to have access to our 2 acre roof top garden on the top level which meant that two of the floors are divided by a set of staircase, I am sorry to hear that it did not meet your expectation.

I was glad to read however that you did enjoy the service from our staff and the location.

We do hope to have the chance to welcome you again soon.

Kind Regards

The Glasshouse is a beautiful hotel in the heart of the city. We stayed in the executive suite, it was modern, clean, beautiful, had a lovely view over the gardens with a little seating area at the patio doors, floor to ceiling windows, fantastic shower, and the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in.
We had dinner in the snug on the first night, (the snug is beautiful, with a stunning fire) service was prompt, friendly and professional, and the food was delicious and piping hot. There is a very good choice on the food and drinks menu's.
Breakfast next morning was not to be faulted, there is a substantial choice of cooked options, and also a delicious continental style buffet to choose from. I had the full vegetarian breakfast the first morning, which was lovely, and came with veggie haggis, which was homemade I'm sure. A real treat when you are used to being served just a frozen veggie sausage if you're lucky!
I really would find it difficult to find anything to complain about at this hotel, if there was one tiny thing it would be that I would have liked a comfortable chair in the room rather than the office style chairs, but this is in keeping with the design of the room.
We stay in the city ourselves, and we will be returning here again to enjoy the comforts of this stunning hotel.
Thank you.

My wife and I have just stayed at this hotel for one night. It was a Xmas present from our son, and his girlfriend, and was room only. We travelled from Fife by bus, and the hotel is only a short walk from the St andrews bus station. We visit Edinburgh regularly, and the hotel is ideally situated in every way.
On arrival we were given a very warm welcome by the staff on reception, and told we had been given a complimentary upgrade. We were taken to our room on the 3rd floor, and given directions to the bar and restaurant.
Our room was very nice, and fitted out to a very high modern standard. The view from the bedroom was stunning, and we would loved it to have been a summer visit and been able to sit out in the lovely garden area.
We had booked dinner, and we're served at the bar dining area on the 3rd floor. Again the service was very good, and the food of a good standard but the prices were too high in my opinion. Similarly on checking the price of breakfast we decided not to bother as it didn't represent very good value for money.
Overall a nice experience but they need to look seriously at the pricing of their food if they want to entice more customers to eat in house. The competition next door in the omni centre and in the surrounding area is fierce, and the hotel need to do something to get back in the race for business. Maybe rather than offer a complimentary upgrade on arrival why not say there is a special offer on an upgrade for customers booked in on a room only basis, and that breakfast is included. I would suggest something in the region of 30 pounds extra. If we had been offered that on arrival I would have gladly accepted it, and the business would be 30 pounds better off!

Room Tip: Try to get a special deal on a suite on the 3rd floor

Dear Peter M,

Thank you for staying with us and glad you enjoyed your Xmas gift from you son.

I was very pleased to read your comments about the room as well as the service received from our staff.

With regards to our breakfast prices, those are in line with the other 5* Hotels in the city and unfortunately the restaurants in the Omni Centre do offer cheaper options but with less options.

I do hope we will be able to welcome you again soon maybe to enjoy a nice summer night in our garden.

Kind Regards

We had an amazing two nights at this hotel for our wedding anniversary. We travelled by train from Kent and this hotel is an easy walk from the station. The service was impeccable, the staff were all really welcoming and friendly but also very professional, and we had a room upgrade which was lovely - our room opened out onto the roof terrace which would be lovely to sit out on in summer, not so good in January, but still a lovely view across it and onwards to Calton Hill - amazing seeing this sort of view from the middle of a city. The food was wonderful and the room had everything we could need. The sitting area was divided off from the sleeping area which was nice and it was beautifully warm and clean. The bar area was very unusual, a central fireplace with the bar going all around and a staircase leading down out of it to the dining room. They served Prosecco by the glass which always impresses me!! The only slight downside was that on the sunday night there were only four tables occupied for dinner so we had to eat in the bar which did not have quite the same atmosphere as the dining room and I need a cushion because all the chairs were too low. Another lady did the same so perhaps it is something needing addressing although to be fair only a very minor gripe. We had a perfect weekend and would certainly recommend this hotel.

We had a three night stay here whilst coming to Edinburgh to see Wicked. The location is perfect for The Playhouse, you couldn't get closer.

The reception staff were professional but not very friendly. The bell boys, maids and waiting staff were lovely.

Our room was upgraded from a standard room to one which is on the roof garden. This was a lovely surprise. The room was very modern, very well appointed and had all mod cons. Our view of the garden and Calton Hill was fantastic.

We were staying on bed and breakfast basis. The food at breakfast was great, but the service was something else. On the first morning after we were seated, given menus and ordered we heard other guests asking how long their food would be and one table said they hadn't yet had their order taken. About five minutes after we ordered other guests arrived at the table next to us. However, their food arrived before ours and before the other guests who had been waiting longer than us. When ours arrived the sausages from 'a full Scottish breakfast' were missing. On the second morning there were a couple of people waiting to be seated before us, but whilst we were waiting several couples turned up and were told there would be a half hour wait for tables. We were seated in a few minutes but as more people kept arriving the head waiter asked them to go back to their rooms and order room service at no extra charge. On the third morning there were no hitches in particular but it was still evident that the service wasn't running smoothly. We found the whole experience amusing, but they really need to up their game as this is letting down the five star status of the hotel.

We stayed here as a special birthday treat as it is an expensive hotel. Although our room was gorgeous and we had a lovely time I'm not sure we would pay the money to stay here again. We've stayed in four stars in Edinburgh which may not be as modern but we enjoyed just as much and found the staff and service to be better.

Stayed November 2014, traveled with friends

We have stayed at the glasshouse several times. The last few times were via an Itison discount deal. With this deal you got a high tea and breakfast. The high tea was a bit different, with the selection of items being a bit tricky to eat, overcooked or just not quite hitting the spot. The breakfasts were nothing special, for instance the potato scone was one quarter of a scone and the sauces/creams/milk/sugar are very mean servings. A bit dissapointing, given the price of the average room. We stayed in standard room. The first standard room we ended up getting changed 3 times due to noise then a lack of heating. In all the rooms during that stay we found umpteen complimentary things hadn't been restocked which was slightly irritating. Our January stay room was adequate. However, the suites really are the rooms to go for...music systems, complimentary whisky - that's the ticket. We ended up in a suite for our first stay due to our room heating not functioning and not having anywhere else to put us. The staff are an asset to the hotel, not one fault can I mention. They all go above and beyond, from the handyman, to the cleaners to the staff you meet on arrival. It's a fantastic location, and a fabulous base for going on a night on the tiles. As I say maybe eat somewhere else, and get a suite if you can afford it.
