Have stayed here twice. It's a great hotel, extremely modern and contemporary in design. Rooms are lovely with high quality bedding, flat screen tvs and Korres shower accessories. It is a luxury hotel in a great location. True 5 star. Staff are fantastic.

There is a great rooftop terrace where you can enjoy a drink in the summer and some rooms have patios that lead out onto this. We never used the bar area since there is too much choice in Edinburgh and you are much better to get out and about to see everything. 5 minutes walk from Princes St and right next to the Playhouse.

Great hotel.

Fabulous hotel, excellent staff, very very nice indeed. Loved the details, made the place feel very special.

It is a rambling hotel, it's not a straightforward tower-block type place but if it were you wouldn't have such a great roof terrace. Even in November this was a great place to be!

The snug was a nice little place too. It has a great fire as a feature, very good for a cold Scottish day in November!

The breakfast was fabulous too, good choice and all well cooked.

The staff are what make this place brilliant; excellent reception, excellent porters, excellent doorman. They really can't do enough to help, though aren't simpering and they don't hover over you.

Overall, we loved it! Perfect!

  • Liked — PHENOMENAL bed!!
  • Disliked — Errm... errr... ummm... nope. Can't think of anything.

We stayed at the Glasshouse for four days and had a good time - but whilst there were some very real plus points, some other things let the hotel down.

Pluses are the hotel's unusual design and beautiful roof top garden - we stayed in November but in the summer it would be fabulous. The hotel is also nicely presented and in a good location not far from Prince's Street etc. The beds are great (I have seen several reviewers mention this and its true - slept like a log) as is the breakfast service.

On the down side, our room could have been cleaner - the peripherals especially needed attention. Also, on one day we returned at 4:00pm and our room had still not been made up. Some one did come after two calls to Reception but I was surprised - its not something I have ever encountered in a hotel (of any standard) before.

We also missed having a serviced bar and a restaurant - although it must be said that the honesty bar was a nice touch and the breakfast/room service was very good.

So not bad overall but I would say I have stayed in other hotels that deserve their 5 stars more.

Staying in the glasshouse was a great experience!!! Rooms were great, both shower and bed.....bed just seems to make you sleep like in a coma!!! :) fantastic! good location, not bang in the centre but still close enough. 5 mins to princes street. right next to playhouse theatre, good if you plan to see a show and right next to lots of restaurants and a cinema. close to other 5 * hotels, balmoral, scotsman etc....

Would definitely recommend...

We stayed here Thursday 30th & Friday 31st Oct 2008.

Upon arrival we were greeted by the very friendly and helpful doorman.

To our surprise (and benefit) we had been upgraded from a standard room to a suite, without asking. The Bowmore Suite (named after whiskey) to which you recieve a free decanter of in the suite, was excellent, amazing city views, very large room and bathroom, gigantic balcony although a little chilly at this time of year. The electric curtains were quite amusing!!

All hotel staff very friendly and informative, room and other hotel areas were spotlessly clean.

The only downside, in my opinion, to this hotel is the honesty bar. Although the room itself is very cosy, particularly around the fire area, the bar lacks any sort of atmosphere. There's no bartender to talk to and throughout our stay we never even saw another guest in there. OK if you are looking for piece and quiet, but was just too quiet for my liking.

Hotel location is good. Not dead central but only a 10 minute walk or so to good bars and restaurants.

I would definately stay here again and would have no doubts about recommending to others.

  • Liked — The Suite - Amazing views and quality fittings.
  • Disliked — The Honesty Bar - Just too quiet.
