We stayed here Thursday 30th & Friday 31st Oct 2008.

Upon arrival we were greeted by the very friendly and helpful doorman.

To our surprise (and benefit) we had been upgraded from a standard room to a suite, without asking. The Bowmore Suite (named after whiskey) to which you recieve a free decanter of in the suite, was excellent, amazing city views, very large room and bathroom, gigantic balcony although a little chilly at this time of year. The electric curtains were quite amusing!!

All hotel staff very friendly and informative, room and other hotel areas were spotlessly clean.

The only downside, in my opinion, to this hotel is the honesty bar. Although the room itself is very cosy, particularly around the fire area, the bar lacks any sort of atmosphere. There's no bartender to talk to and throughout our stay we never even saw another guest in there. OK if you are looking for piece and quiet, but was just too quiet for my liking.

Hotel location is good. Not dead central but only a 10 minute walk or so to good bars and restaurants.

I would definately stay here again and would have no doubts about recommending to others.

  • Liked — The Suite - Amazing views and quality fittings.
  • Disliked — The Honesty Bar - Just too quiet.

The check-in was okay but not exactly overly-friendly for 5star.

The bell boy was slightly more talkative as he led us about 10mins to the back of beyond.
We were looking forward to a view of the roofgarden but instead were looking at the office blocks. How romantic.

The room was rather tastefull..although somewhat male orientated....half clad ladies in an artistic style..hmmm.

The hotel is nice but pretty average, some stained carpets/smashed tiles etc make it look a bit scruffy.

We were there for a romantic break, but the lounge area of our suite had 2 chunky chairs & big wooden block table..it just wasn't conducive to cuddling up.

You will get fresh towels everyday if you leave them on the floor, if you hang them up they assume you wish to re-use them.

The honesty bar was cosy & the fire is a nice touch...i do feel sorry for the residents trying to sleep in the surrounding rooms.

On our second night, we found it difficult to sleep due to outside noise of the city revellers, which is to be expected to a degree, however the loud thumping/banging noises were disconcerting.

Then at 1.50am the emergency alarm sounded, & we quickly dressed and went outside in the cold rain.

Not one staff member gathered everyone for a briefing..& some ladies were obviously very upset.
Obviously fire alarms are for our safety but it was very much a case of looking out for yourself..there seemed to be only 2 staff members on duty at the time.
In the morning an apology letter was popped under the door, thanking us for our patience...& feedback on the situation & how it was handled. I feel they should contact their local fire brigade & ask their advice, they are the experts after all.
In my work , we have stringent fire alarm proceedure & designated people to check everyone is safe..this did not happen.

Its very close to the playhouse, & its relatively near the centre of town..but it is not 5 star in the least.

  • Liked — honest bar(but expensive!)
  • Disliked — the fire proceedure!

The hotel is very modern, bright, inviting and has stylish and comfortable rooms.

The bathrooms are large, modern with bath and separate shower cubicle.

The only downside to this hotel is that it is a bit of a walk into the centre and the bars & restaurants local to the hotel don't get much better than walkabout (which is not what i would think most of the glasshouse clientele look for).

Overall though a lovely hotel and the honesty bar is a nice touch.

Stayed the weekend here in an executive room looking out onto the roof garden. Lovely big room, comfy bed and a great shower - loved the heated floor in the bathroom!

Check-in was a bit slow - apparently they add £50 a night onto your provisional credit card bill to pay for extras, then scrap this when you come to pay your actual bill when leaving!! I've not come across this before and it took me a while to get my head around it.

Also got no bath towels on the Saturday and when we rang the receptionist (foreign) she didn't seem to know what bath towels were!

Overall, though, a good experience and we'd certainly stay there again (if we can afford it!).
