The hotel is very modern, bright, inviting and has stylish and comfortable rooms.
The bathrooms are large, modern with bath and separate shower cubicle.
The only downside to this hotel is that it is a bit of a walk into the centre and the bars & restaurants local to the hotel don't get much better than walkabout (which is not what i would think most of the glasshouse clientele look for).
Overall though a lovely hotel and the honesty bar is a nice touch.
Stayed the weekend here in an executive room looking out onto the roof garden. Lovely big room, comfy bed and a great shower - loved the heated floor in the bathroom!
Check-in was a bit slow - apparently they add £50 a night onto your provisional credit card bill to pay for extras, then scrap this when you come to pay your actual bill when leaving!! I've not come across this before and it took me a while to get my head around it.
Also got no bath towels on the Saturday and when we rang the receptionist (foreign) she didn't seem to know what bath towels were!
Overall, though, a good experience and we'd certainly stay there again (if we can afford it!).
Hello dear readers, it's The Peke again, reporting on a visit North of the Border to Bonny Scotland.
I was lucky enough to stay at The Glasshouse as part of a business trip for one night and one night only! The Boyfriend left at home.
Having had to get up at 4:30am to catch my flight, lets just say i wasn't quite my best. Myself and my learned colleagues arrived at the hotel en masse (well 5 of us!). The check in was a bit laborious but we got through it. We were made to feel welcome.
The meeting ensued. The air conditioning in the meeting room only had one setting - hot! However it was a functional enough room with good AV equipment.
After the meeting, I was just ready to sleep so staggered to my room (luggage had been delivered) and literally just fell into what I can describe as the MOST AMAZING bed. The duvet, pillows and comfort of my bed made me feel cocooned and I just didnt want to get out of it. My room was quiet, clean and the bathroom was lovely, glass shower and nice toiletries (I had to stop myself raiding the cleaners trolly for 'samples' to take home!).
After a night on the haggis I arrived 'home' to find my bed re made with a flower on it - a nice touch I thought.
Only one real gripe - the TV didnt work but I was more interested in sleeping anyway!
The rest of the hotel was lovely - nice fire area near the snug and quirky features that take it a world away from the corporate chains that we all get so used to so quickly.
Breakfast was freshly cooked and totally delicious!
Checkout was a bit slow, They only had one chip and PIN machine, and I agree with the comment about the receptionists answering the phone whilst dealing with the customers in front of them gives a poor impression.
All in all, I thought it was well located, didnt even notice any noise and a little haven in terms of accomodation.
Id pay for myself to go there again! I might even take The Boyfriend if he is very good!
Ruff Ruff!

Overall our experience was poor, and certainly well below our expectations. I expected the Glasshouse / Eton Collection to be on par with hotels in the Relais & Chateau / Von Essen collections - but they fall far short of this benchmark.
Our room was not ready for us when we checked in - an hour after the stated check-in time. The receptionist was very apologetic - but then she kept answering the phone while checking us in, and checking us out, and doing anything. 1 receptionist for a hotel this size should not be dealing with front of house and switchboard.
The room itself was below average. I found the bed to be very soft and unsupportive - so much so that I rolled towards the middle (I weigh 13st, my wife 10st). The sides of the mattress also seemed to lack any support.
Our room (92) featured a partition wall, something I have NEVER seen in a hotel bedroom and which, frankly, looked odd. I also struggle to imagine when it might be useful. The partition wall was quite badly scuffed - presumably an intrinsic flaw because it cannot be repainted.
The worst thing about our stay was the level of noise experienced. Our room was on the side of the building above the "Walkabout" bar - a chain of Australian themed bars. Although street noise was generally kept to a minimum by the glazing, the noise of music from the bar reverberated through the building, keeping us both awake until 2am. The night service manager was unable to relocate us, and tried to explain this away by it being a city hotel. The duty manager the following morning explained that noise issues are experienced equally in all of the rooms, because the hotel shares the building with the 'Omni" complex - a bar, restaurant and cinema complex. The hotel is therefore fundamentally compromised. To the hotel's credit, the general manager called to apologise and refunded 50% of our stay. But for future visits to Edinburgh I will be returning to the Balmoral, which is more centrally located and does not suffer these issues.
Attention to detail is also seriously lacking. The 'welcome card' in our room had another guest's name. Even the email inviting me to complete a survey on our visit stated that "there are many hotels in London to select from" - indeed there are, that's of little relevance when your hotel is in Edinburgh.
If I had experienced these problems in a Thistle Hotel or Holiday Inn, and was paying £120 a night, I would accept it as part of the compromise. With these flaws, however, I'm struggling to understand how they justify rack rates starting at nearly £300.
As another reviewer said, there are so many other much better hotels in Edinburgh, which truly deserve their 5 star rating and the prices they charge - I really wouldn't waste your time on the Glasshouse.
