The Glasshouse has some very clever photography on its website, they fail to include the giant multi- plex that is joined to it. With its collection of grim chain bars and busy road the location leaves alot to be desired, i believe that some of the rooms are directly above some of these bars.
Luckily our room looked out onto the beautiful roof terrace which is the saving grace of this rather soulless hotel. The rooms were large and clean and very quiet.
The staff seemed rather in experienced and this certainly does not feel like a five star hotel. In general ok but overpriced for what you get, i dont think i would go back in a hurry.

Was in Edinburgh for the Fringe where the City was absolutely packed with visitors from all over. The Glasshouse was a real haven in the city; quiet, even when standing outside on the balcony and with friendly staff.

Have stayed at the Glasshouse several times now sometimes in a suites if I can get a good deal (discounted advanced booking) but as it was the Fringe and it was a late booking, it was full rack rates through Expedia. The Hotel website showed them full. Still we got a few Executive Room with a nice external balcony. Most room have a terrace on the roof garden but that means anyone on the roof garden can look into the room if the curtains are open.

The Executive room was fairly spacious with a seating area and desk behind the bed, providing more than adequate space for our long weekend.

Arrived at about 1:40pm and had to wait about 10 mins for the cleaners to finish the cleaning the room which was fine. The bed is the best bit of the Glasshouse. Nice and soft. Full amenities like coffee/tea making facilities (loads of milk in the fridge for filter coffee and tea), iron, a bottle of water for the evening, soft robes and slippers in all rooms. I suppose it the level of amenities you would normally expect to see only in a top level hotel room in a hotel chain.

Sometime ago, when the Glasshouse first started, I would have given the place a 5 rating. A few minor problems with the servicing of rooms have led me to the view that while management are trying to maintain standards, some of the eastern european staff they are employing are not given due attention to detail. Towels not changed, dirty linen left on bathroom floors and no bath towels on one day. Things were put right when we called up but you kinda get a feeling a large hotel mentality was beginning to set in. This is a boutique hotel and needs to keep that small luxury standard, anticipating guests needs to ensure its occupancy rates remain high.

There is a taxi stand located right in front of the hotel but you can also get the hotel to call you a taxi. It is an easy walk to the High Street and the Castle although it is uphill most of the way.

Breakfast was rather pricey from memory from a previous stay and it took a bit of time when the dinning room was crowded so we gave it a miss.

Booked this hotel for 1 night on 19th Aug 2008. I knew I was proposing to my girlfriend on that day, so I wanted somewhere great for us to stay that night.

I knew I'd chosen well by the squeal that came from my new fiancée as the porter opened the door to the room for us.

I stay in a fair number of hotels and I really feel like the Star Rating system, such as the AA one, is going downhill. I stay in 4 Stars that feel like 2 Stars sometimes.

The Glasshouse is one hotel though where I really thought it matched its 5 Star rating. The room was large, spacious and very modern. Huge wall of glass along one side, which is where it gets its name from, I guess. The curtains were electric, which was fun. There was a great divider down the room with a TV in it which you could flip either way - towards the bed, or towards the seating area. The bed was enormous and very comfortable. My girlfriend would have taken that bed home with us if she could.

The bathroom was also excellent. Two nice sinks, huge bath and probably the best hotel shower I've had the pleasure to use.

We went out for the evening, came back later that night and they had remade the bed for us, which was awesome.

The only thing "negative", and I mean this in a very light-hearted way, is that my girlfriend/fiancée got a bit jealous of the paintings of half-naked women on the walls ;) I obviously thought they were very tasteful indeed!

Okay finding the entrance to the car park was a small problem but once we got inside the Glasshouse I loved every second of our weekend there.
The room had the biggest, most comfortable bed I've ever slept in, plus fabulous furnishings and hi-tech gadgets. The room looked out onto a roof garden through a glass wall that ran through into the bathroom. The bathroom itself was huge with heated tiled floor and a bath I could have spent several hours relaxing in.
We didn't eat in the hotel but had some drinks in the 'honesty' bar - the staff stay in the background more than most hotels making it feel much more relaxed than other places.
In total it is absolutely perfect for a romantic weekend, chilling out and enjoying being spoilt rotten!
