NEVER GO BACK...
Upon arriving at the Stuart's my friend and I were quite happy with the location and the initial aesthetics of the B & B. However, after being greeted by a rather curt and unhappy innkeeper (Mr. Stuart) our hopes of a grand stay vanished. Not only were we not greeted with a warm welcome, to be honest, I felt that I was an inconvenience.
In addition, the room was less than satisfactory. The bed- like a cement slab- stood in the center of the room. The room was drab and resembled a hospital with a small, Scottish flare.
Perhaps I am a bit of a snob, but when I think "B&B", I imagine a warm bed with a charming and cozy environment- and at least a smiling face. To say the least, this place was far from charming.
I will not be going back...

I stayed in this B&B during July whilst on a university seeking trip with my son. It was extremely good and Gloria was very hospitable without being in your face. I liked the t.v. in the room, the cofee making facilities, the small bottle of wine and the short walk into Edinburgh, not to mention the free internet service! Also there was a very good hire car place 5 minutes away!
At first I was a bit apprehensive about all the guests being seated together at breakfast but it made for a good laugh and a great itinerary swap! And I loved the kipper and the haggis.....if you don't like either kipper or haggis don't panic there is a very sensible breakfast menu and Gloria is very accommodating with your tastes!
We would definitely stay there again!

Edinburgh is a "must see" city and the Stuarts B&B is a wonderful place to call home. Our room was large and bright, and looked out onto a garden. The amenities were great and the Scotish breakfast was superb. John and Gloria were very accommodating hosts. We decided to start our days early, so we were provided a continental breakfast the night before and one morning breakfast was prepared a little earlier than usual so we could eat a hot meal before embarking on our tour. An added bonus was the public park/golf course across the street from our B&B. We enjoyed strolling through the park after dinner and one morning we tried our hand at chipping and putting. Another added benefit was the availability of a computer which allowed us to check our emails and travel plans.

Nestled on a residential street across from a stretch of green park, where the only sound occassionally heard were from those practicing their golf putting (actually since the 1300's). This home that the very gracious Stuarts share is very warm and inviting. Our room for the 3 of us (myself, husband, and 13 year old daughter) was of a very generous size. Even accomodating an extra bed for my daughter, with plenty of space left over for comfort.

We were greeted in the mornings with a fresh home-made breakfast prepared by Jon himself. Jon was also very helpful with recommending restaurants and sharing interesting Edinburgh lore. Outside the breakfast room is a lovely courtyard garden.

The Edinburgh castle and historic town is also a walking distance from the Stuarts.

If you are looking for a delightfull, quiet yet handy spot for the city centre then this is for you. Just a short walk across the park from the Castle you will find The Stuarts an ideal B & B with superb accomodation, wonderfull Scottish breakfasts, yes you can have haggis, and even some '' posh '' freebies like a little bowl of Quality Street sweets in the room and a small bottle of wine in your own little fridge. Thoroughly recommended.
