My family stayed in the Royal Garden Apartments for a weekend while visiting Edinburgh and could not have been happier! The reception was lovely with coffee, tea, fresh fruit, pastries, large plasma screen TV and more magazines and newspapers than you can shake a stick at! There was also a very large selection of DVDs to borrow. The apartment was immaculate. We had a two bedroom apartment with two bathrooms and a large, comfortable living room (with satellite TV!!) and kitchen. Coffee, tea, bottled water, and a pint of milk were already provided! The view of the Firth of Forth was amazing, as were the beautiful gardens right outside our window. The apartments were in a great location - right by St. Andrews Square and it only took about 10-15 minutes to walk to the Edinburgh Castle. We had a great time here and would love to come back.

My daughter was getting married last month and we had booked several apartments at Royal Garden Apartments as we had been recommended by friends because of location and the suitability of Apartments. I was slightly sceptical, as I had never stayed in Apartments before and I so wanted everything to be right on the day!
The staff could not have been better! - they were so helpful - and the complimentary bottle of Champagne for the morning of the wedding was a lovely touch.
We had one of the Penthouse Apartments, the one beside the lift and this was perfect for family visiting us as the large lounge area was superb for entertaining. My niece had her children with her in an apartment and there was a cot, changing mat, highchair etc in the Apartment on arrival - what service! The only drawback was that we would have preferred a cooked breakfast, although the complimentary muffins and fruit were nice, we could not be bothered using the kitchen facilities. I can highly recommend these Apartments for any family occasions for their location, size of Apartments and the friendliness of their staff.

We stayed only one night in the apartments which are within a few minutes walk of Princes Street and the Playhouse Theatre, where we were attending a show. (A one-night stay is not always available).

Having booked a Superior one bedroom apartment with a rear garden view for £115 we were pleasantly surprised to be allocated a two double bedroom apartment. The spacious accommodation also included two bathrooms (one with shower and one with bath) and a large lounge with open plan dining area and fully equiped kitchen. There would be no problems staying here on a self catering basis and from our point of view why pay a similar sum for a double bedroom in one of the other city-centre hotels.

Secure door entry to the building is obtained with your room card in the evening.

The furnishings were all of a good standard although the bed was not the most comfortable I've slept in - it seemed quite short. The lounge had TV, DVD and CD player and the helpful receptionist offered a selection of music and movies to borrow.

On the down-side we agreed with other visitors' comments that the carpets throughout, which are light coloured, have been the victim of foot traffic. The bathrooms match the historic character of the building - they are a bit old fashioned. The floorboards share this character - we think they must be originals and every step told you that you were not the first visitor!

Coffee and muffins are served in the morning in the guests lounge on the ground floor next to the reception (similar aparthotel accommodation in the city provides cereals, bread, milk, etc in guests apartments which we prefer). A complimentary glass of wine was also offered in the evening.

There is no hotel car park and the street at the front of the hotel is a main route with little/no opportunity to park. We thought we were fortunate to obtain a space costing only £5 in nearby Albany Street (coins required for meter) however the receptionist indicated that a further block from there was free. Sadly although our parking space was located in a perfectly respectable looking residential area our car suffered vandalism which is costing in excess of £500 to repair. Although no guarantees can be given, on reflection it would have possibly have been safer to have parked in a multi-storey nearby!

We dined at the nearby Stac Poly restaurant which offered very good friendly service and nice (rich flavoured) food with a Scottish theme and at a price. Incidently the service is included in the bill.

We'd recommend the aparthotel especially to those staying in the city for a few days or more - it's convenient, spacious place - ignore the squeaky floorboards (put on a CD) and park in a safe place! The apartment also gives a better feel for the local way of life which visitors from overseas may appreciate.

  • Liked — Lots of space
  • Disliked — the squeaky floorboards

I visit Edinburgh on a weekly basis (2/3 nights per week) & I have made my base in Royal Garden Apartments. When I leave the apartment each week, all the food I leave in the fridge & cupboards is stored for me for my next visit .....and is in the apartment for me on my return. There is so little fuss when I arrive - just how I like it and if I get in on time there is a complimentary glass of wine in the early evening. There is also complimentary Broadband in the apartment (would prefer wireless, but not complaining!).

The location is very good for me as they are so central & would therefore be ideal for everybody, either for business or leisure

Great location, great staff - very friendly and helpful. They gave us a complementary upgrade and were very accommodating when we showed up with an additional guest. Very reasonable and they went out of their way to help us with everything.

Really nice to have a kitchenette and living area.

Really enjoyed our stay and would go back in a second!
