The Holyrood ApartHotel is hidden from the main steets (and somewhat hard to locate, as it's in the back of an alley called a "Close", but that's also what makes it an ideal place to stay. It's very secure, with ample parking, and no noise from Edinburgh's traffic.
It is quite a beautiful apartment suite (we had the two bedroom, two bathroom one, kitchenette, fully- equipped for breakfast and snacks, living/dining area with great TV and sound system, and a safe for valuables.) The reception desk staff were very nice and helpful. Our first stay in Scotland felt like home! Nearby is Edinburgh (and also Holyrood) Castles. But our favourite outing had to be Mary King's Close-- a tour of an underground street that was home to victims of the bubonic and pneumonic plagues. Very entertaining and knowledgeable tour guides made it worthwhile.
Also,we booked a table at the Witchery Restaurant (near Edinburgh Castle) online a month in advance of our trip over, because it's extremely popular. It's very old and quite the romantic gourmet spot. Celebrities have been known to dine there, and it's no wonder!! The food was well-prepared and delicious, and the serving staff very attentive. Not cheap, but quite the treat!
