Based on reviews from this site, I booked a 3 night stay at the Holyrood for myself, my 10 month old daughter and my parents who were visiting us from the States (we live in Germany). After initial concerns due to a local taxi driver's comments, we were more than pleased with our experience. I think the taxi driver had perhaps only ever seen the outside of the building (a bit in need of a new coat of paint) and never gone in.

We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment on the 3rd floor. It had a nice living room/kitchen area and they had provided a nice high chair and a portacrib at my request. Both were nice and looked safe and new. The apartment itself was immaculate and had a fully stocked kitchen... even a small container of milk for coffee in the fridge. The beds were comfortable and we all slept well.

As others have mentioned, the only thing "off" about this hotel is the quite noisy plumbing. When you use water in the bathrooms or kitchen, it sounds like some kind of loud generator running. Fortunately, we only heard noise when we used water ourselves, not from other apartments, so completely predictable and controllable.

The front desk was helpful for everything and there is one computer with free internet access in the lobby.

The hotel is located one street away from the lower end of the Royal Mile (by the Palace, not the Castle). We walked or took the bus everywhere except to and from airport. There we took a taxi since it is quite a walk with luggage from Waverly Station. The taxi cost around 18 pounds.

One restuarant recommendation as well, LA FAVORITA on Leith Walk. You are best taking the bus from North Bridge to get there, but it was so worth it. It is Italian (real Italian) with delicious pizza fired in a stone oven and wonderful pastas. And they were SUPER kid friendly although it is fairly upscale. The best part was the fact that they do GLUTEN FREE pizza and pasta, Heaven for anyone with gluten intolerance/celiac disease.

Edinburgh was great and the Holyrood stay was perfect for us!

We stayed for a week at the Holyrood Aparthotel over Hogmanay (New Years) and loved it. We were in Edinburgh for our honeymoon and it was an almost perfect place for us. Fully equipped, spacious apartment in a great location, and with a very attentive staff.

Because it was fully equipped we were able to make our own late breakfasts, relax to our hearts content and generally enjoy Edinburgh at our own pace. The rooms were spacious and comfortable (since there were only two of us we used one of the bedrooms as a really really big closet/dressing room) and everything met our needs.

Our only complaint, as we've seen from other reviews, was the plumbing. It was difficult to use and in one of the bathrooms the toilet only worked occasionally. Other than that our only nit was that the wireless Internet was not complimentary, but that's a very minor point.

One thing we definitely know is that next time we're in Edinburgh, this is where we'll stay. If you want to see more about our stay at Holyrood Aparthotel, you can find it at:

The Holyrood Aparthotel is a winner! We stayed for 3 mights in early December. Location is great, as others have mentioned. Personnel are extremely helpful and friendly. Our apartment had one double bed room and one room with twin beds which was perfect for us. The apartment was spotless and well appointed. Bed linens were comfortable and the basket of goodies for breakfasts/tea was outstanding. Our teens loved this place! Definitely a great accommodation.

Stayed for four nights with my young son during half term. The location is very good and within easy walking distance of all the central Edinburgh tourist spots. Off street parking is fully secured but can be a bit tricky to manoeuvre around when it's full.

The apartment was well laid out, very spacious and contained everything we needed. There is a large convenience store half a block away which has most of the things you'd need for basic self catering.

The lounge room has a decent TV with full Freeview reception and a DVD player - a must when you have children. They could do with putting in a more comfortable sofa though. WiFi internet access is fast and reliable although they use Swisscom which is the most expensive hotel ISP.

I've yet to stay in a bad hotel in Edinburgh and this one has just hit the top of my list as best value for money of any hotel I've stayed in anywhere!

Stayed here for a few days, found the rooms to be more than ample, plenty of room, staff were friendly and helpful. Great spot for easy access to the bottom end of the Royal Mile, just walk a hundred yards and you are on the street.

Plenty of places to eat just up the road, you can walk everywhere from here. Only downside was excessive noise one night from unruly young men in the courtyard below, there is student accommodation next door, otherwise a very peaceful location.

Highly recommended!
