“Great place but scary pictures on bedroom wall freaked out my daughter!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2011

My daughter and i stayed here whilst visiting friends and it was ideal as i was able to entertain in the apartment after she went to bed, the apartments are of a very high standard my one complaint is that the pictures on the bedroom wall were of a scary looking woman which scared my daughter. Apart from that would definately stay here again.

UK hotels are typical expensive, in need of remodeling, and cramped. The Aparthotel was NONE of that. It was HUGE! 2 full bedrooms and bathrooms! A full kitchen! A living room! And right on the Royal Mile, you can walk to ANYWHERE. We loved our stay here and never wanted to leave. Oh and the place looked brand new and modern, very stylish. I hope one day I can go back.

We stayed at this Edinburgh hotel for 2 nights as my father wanted to go to Edinburgh castle. It is conveniently located 15 min walk away from the castle (5 min from the bottom of the royal mile) and a stone's throw away from the Holyrood park.

Pro:
- Secured car park (at £7.50/day)
- Near to major attractions
- Very spacious (we had 2 bed apartment so my father & I had a room each!) with its own living room.
- x2 bathrooms for 2 of us. They were both clean and well decorated although the shower in the en suit had broken thermostat and will only do scorching hot or freezing cold.
- Good apartment amenities are provided. I counted 4 sets of cutleries, plates, cups, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge, kitchen with hob, microwave, LCD tv and CD player.
- The place was clean and the room serviced daily.
- Tesco (supermarket) is just below the hotel and many restaurants are within walking distance.

Cons:
- No aircon! It's probably ok for majority of times but on occasion the rooms did get a bit hot and uncomfortable to sleep.
- Noisy. The rooms haven't got a good sound proofing (to be fair most British hotels fail at this) and I can hear my dad's snoring from next room.
- The room's window opens up to the centre of the building with no view. This enclosed middle section also echoes a lot, resulting in further noise from other residents/birds.

Overall, its an ok place and the price is reasonable for Edinburgh. I would probably stay in a hotel nearer to the royal mile next time as the noise level in this hotel was no better than in a busier street (which was what I was hoping to have)

I stayed here recently with my Aunt and was extremely impressed with the hotel. The breakfast basket that we were given lasted for our whole 3 night stay and we had leftovers. The rooms were very well appointed and clean. The staff were very helpful, even handling a restaurant booking for me before I arrived in England, which was very much appreciated. Will definately be back

Stayed here two nights, never stayed in an aparthotel before and the concept was great, it really suited our stay as after a busy day sightseeing we needed a relaxing place to come back to and cook a meal rather than eating out in the evening. The location was excellent, a short walk to all the attractions of Edinburgh and to the bus stop to the Royal Yacht Britannia, a nearby Tesco Metro was very handy. The breakfast provided was more than adequate for our two night stay (jam selection, butter, cheese spread, yoghurts, tea, coffee, sugar, cereals, milk and orange juice) and the kitchen had everything we needed. Everything was very clean and the room was nicely decorated and tidy. The only downside was the noise, because the floors have no carpet you could constantly hear footsteps and banging noises, we also experienced some rowdy party goers outside in the early hours of the morning (not the hotel's fault I know). Would have loved to have given this hotel a mark of excellent, such a shame about the noise.

Good:
Plenty of rooms, space to move around
Two Bathrooms
Kitchen
Two Bedrooms
Great location!
Reasonably priced

Bad:
Noise: Paper thin walls (you can clearly hear conversations in the hallway) , flocks of seagulls that fly over the building constantly, constant construction noise, and creaky floorboards (you can hear whenever someone walks around on the rooms above you)
Beds aren't great nor is couch in living room

The hotel itself is very good. I travelled with another couple and we had two bedrooms, two bathrooms an a nice lounge with a good kitchen. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The Aparthotel is located near Holyrood Castle, so it's perfect for visiting Edinburgh old town and all the sightseeing spots.
But it's loud. The first night some drunken guys screeming till 3 o'clock in the morning, the second night a lot of trucks drove through the little street in front of the hotel. Perhaps i had just bad luck but some other comments reports the same. It's really a pitty because the location is great. But i won't stay there anymore because of the noise.
