“Lovely food in a lovely place served by lovely people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

I've been in La Barantine a couple of times now and have never been disappointed. The service is well-suited to the place as it is so friendly and welcoming. The food is kept simple but is delicious and it is a wonderful place to go for breakfast. The staff enjoy working there and it shows in their work as they are always very smiley and on hand to make sure that your every need is catered for. Highly recommend the croissants and sandwiches. Great value too!

“A naughty treat but je ne regrette rien !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

A rare treat as long walk needs to follow. A true patisserie, excellent coffee and authentic gateaux; meringue gooey inside but not oversweet, strawberry tarte equally impressive. Small but intimate. Simple table and chairs but a rewarding occasion.
Good choice of bread, croissants, quiche and sandwiches to enjoy in or out.
Everything here including the Waitresses is authentic.

“Authentic French cafe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013

If you are looking for a place where authentic and genuine french products are served; then just make your way to Bruntsfield where this little French cafe will send you to Heaven! all products are made on site. All products and delicious pastries are home made and to the French taste. the sandwich are just like at home (France!), the bread and soup are just like you are travelling to the old continent.
La Barantine is located in the heart of Bruntsfield, little out of all tourist attractions but it is a very rewarding effort to seat there after the short walk (only 15 minutes from the Sheraton hotel). If you are in Edinburgh and looking for a real French experience for your breakfast; just stop at la Barantine: It's open every day from 07h30 to 17h30. also, if you ar elooking for a place where you can dispense your knowledge of the French language, all staff speaks French and you feel welcomed like at home, all staff and Celine were an absolute pleasure to meet and talk: Thank you very much for bringing a genuine part of France to Edinburgh

“Some of the best croissants in town...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

I had always thought Edinburgh was missing a few really good French patisserie chains, like the ones found in London (Pauls and Patisserie Valerie, which is actually Belgian I know). Patisserie valerie came and disappointed, their croissants being defrosted chunks of bread, so obviously made of margarine. La Barantine instead takes this role in providing delicious fresh pastries, croissants and baguettes, all in a very continental rustic atmosphere! The smell when they bake is like crack, the staff are lovely, and the prices are reasonable. It's worth the trek across the meadows.

“Like in France”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

I just love the meat platter!!! Better than bigger places which charge much more.
The bread is very good too, and you can finish with one if their delicious cakes.
A real treat for French food lovers.
