We tried to book a different hotel for our stay in Edinburgh. However a miscommunication led us to the Kew House. Some mistakes truly have a happy ending.
From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed. They offered suggestions on places to visit, recommendations of local restaurants and how to navigate the local transportation system. Having never been to Scotland, this was most helpful. When we decided how we wanted to spend our time they even helped book a tour for us and find bus routes to get to other locations we wanted to visit. We had a very early flight out of Edinburgh so they arranged for a taxi to arrive at 5:15 in the morning to take us to the airport.
The room was immaculately clean and nicely furnished. In fact the entire hotel was amazingly clean and comfortably furnished. The lounge offers guests internet access and a place to relax in a Zen-like atmosphere. So many of the little touches you get at the Kew House that you expect from a much larger and more expensive hotel really make the difference. Sherry and chocolates in your room upon arrival, fresh flowers in the entry hall and chocolates on your pillow each evening just to name a few. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual but none of the little details are overlooked. It is a completely non-smoking hotel which was such a relief to two people highly sensitive to smoke in a country full of smokers.
Should you stay at the Kew House take their suggestions for dining to heart. Alan and Ian aren't just great hosts, they KNOW where to get a good meal. Every one of the recommendations they made were superb and exactly as they described. The breakfast served there was enjoyable too. They offer a nice selection to choose from. Everything is cooked fresh to order and is delicious.
The only complaint I could find if pressed to find one is the lack of water pressure in the shower. Although I have heard this is common throughout Europe. However, with every other aspect of our stay so enjoyable this was hardly a point of contention. I only wish we had more time to stay and play.
