We arrived at the Clarendon for one night on the 14th August. We had booked some months earlier and a double room cost £125 including breakfast
On arrival we were allocated room 105 which we were told was a double room. On entering the room , we found that the bed was almost like a large single bed and in no way would i consider it a double bed at all. A quick walk down to reception to try and change the room was met with a "we are full sir, there are no other rooms available". This was during the Edinburgh Festival and I am sure that they were full....but not so much as a "sorryy" for the bed size
There were some stains in the bathroom ceiling and to my surprise no alarm clock in the room. The TV did not work properly as the aerial connection at the back was broken and loose. At breakfast the following morning, there was no butter available as they had "run out", I ordered my breakfas without tomato....and guess what, out came the breakfast with tomatoe..!!, admittedly a small thing , but annoying for me
As we were only staying one night and hotel rooms are at a premium in Edinburgh during the festival we decided to take all of the above on the chin.
Whats good about the Clarendon...The "airlink" bus from the airport stops almost outside the hotel and in returning to the airport, the pickup stop is as close too. The location is excellent and could not be better. When we checked in, I had asked for a room in a quiet area of the hotel, but we were given a first floor room facing the main street, from a noise perspective it was excellent, no noise at all and really quiet
Would we return...maybe, but only if they change the size of their "double beds"
