We stayed at the Hanover this weekend 16th to 18th February.
Staff are very friendly and helpful.
Room - very nice and the fridge was very useful for the Scotch pies we purchased to take home with us.
Shower - the most powerful I have ever experienced, certainly wakes you up. Our room was to the side of the hotel and quiet.
The continental breakfast in the fridge each day was more than adequate for our needs.
Location is excellent, everything on your doorstep.

my husband and i stayed here 2 nights in mid december (14-16 dec). we paid sixty three pounds off of hotel club dot com. it could be cheaper elsewhere. on our way from the edinburgh airport, take the airport express shuttle towards waverly and ask the bus driver to stop on princes street between frederick and hanover streets (he may stop there anyway), from here it is a 1 block walk. otherwise the bus will end at waverly station and its a 2-3 block walk from there. the hotel has a GREAT location, perfect for tourists sights, restaurants, pubs, etc. the room was clean, clean sheets and towels. large room for us 2 (compared to other guest houses we stayed in). one spout for the sink in the bathroom (updated western faucet) and a good powerful shower. they dont supply much shampoo (just in a package, daily) so bring your own if you need more. they provide 2 soaps tho, and have tea/coffee making facilities. service at front desk is pretty good, didnt really use them much tho. they were friendly. they provide breakfast in the fridge like everyone says. our experience was that everything was fresh. i personally dont like their breakfast idea, but my husband loved it as he didnt have to wake up early and could eat in the room, and it was fast. the room was warm for the winter, comfy bed, and not too noisy since we were in the back of the hotel. there is a lift, we stayed on the 4th floor. we would stay here again, for maybe a cheaper price if possible.

  • Liked — location, updated bathroom facilities, and cleanliness
  • Disliked — breakfast in fridge (i'd prefer a lower price if they removed the breakfast)
  • Tips/Secrets: — its a short walk uphill to get to the hotel (on hanover street)

Having read the other comments, I phoned and asked for a high room, this was complied with most gracefully. The hotel is in the centre of everything and as you might imagine, outside it is busy at night. We arrived at night and the porter was helpful and courteous, the public areas were clean and tastefully decorated. The bedroom was the same, it was also large and mainly quiet at night with comfortable beds. My one and only complaint was that my breakfast milk was off. They would perhaps be better doing away with this continental breakfast in the fridge idea, not providing it and lowering the price accordingly. Apart from that the stay was brilliant and we will most certainly stay again in the future. (I must add that the Scottish smoking ban is brilliant).

The room was clean and the bed, very comfortable. The shower was the best of any of the places I stayed in Scotland. The location is unbeatable for convenience. Unfortunately, the hotel is quite noisy, due to its central location. You have to take the bitter with the sweet. Our window would not close, and we heard brawling pigeons and crashing dumpsters at four in the morning, not to mention loud drunks. The refrigerated breakfast tray was OK; it did the job, although I did miss fresh coffee (there are a couple of coffee joints nearby for you to get your fix). The lobby was shabby and the adjoining bar was not quiet and relaxing; too dirty and public for my taste.
