Description: Fishers Bistro way out in Leith has been such a success that Edinburgh was practically begging for a branch closer to town, here is a smart, stylish, modern bistro in New Town with all the virtues of the original Fishers: superb ingredients, memorable cooking, fleet and caring service, and great atmosphere. Fish is still the raison d'etre, although you'll find a very few non-piscatorial dishes on the constantly-changing menu. Try starter of oysters, the poached Lindisfarne ones if they're in season when you're on site, main course of stuffed whole sea bass with chorizo, mozzarella and olives, and dessert of chocolate truffle cake with wild berry coulis. Great staff, smartish decor, relaxed ambience.

“Good value , good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

Enjoyed an evening meal here. Wide choice on the menu and like being able to choose between small or large portions. Portions very generous too. Varied wine list and competitively priced.
Only negative was noise level in restaurant.

“Poor”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

I saw a review of this restaurant that described it as “Overrated, over priced and undeservedly self assured." That summed up my experience perfectly.

The only thing that has saved this from a 1 out of 5 rating is the table service, which was excellent, although they over-charged us by £12 on the bill (which we flagged up); the atmosphere and interior, which is very nice; and the wine, which was excellent.

But the food really was a complete let-down.

The starter (Monkfish scampi, fennel risotto, red wine sauce) was disappointingly bland, but the main (Orkney Scallops) was quite frankly awful. Four totally tasteless scallops dumped on a huge bed of inedible seaweed. If a dish costs £20 you expect a bit more.

I'd been expecting far more of this place, having read the reviews, but if you focus on the food, it really is nowhere near as good as it thinks it is.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012 via mobile

We visited this fish restaurant twice already for lunch. Both times the food and service were excellent. I certainly recommend it. The prices are reasonable, good value for money and good quantity of food per plate!

“Wonderful food and fabulous staff.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

I love Fishers in the City, I've eaten here quite a few times and it's become a favourite for birthdays and celebrations but also perfect for a light lunch in town. The food is excellent, really top quailty delicious fare and I've never had a bad meal. The service is exemplary and the friendliness and consideration of the staff hard to beat. Love it! Will be back again, and again :D
