we are just back from this "shabby chic" hotel which we bought with a voucher. we received a call the day before our stay to say they had workmen in and did we want to cancel but this was not an option for us as we'd already paid for rail tickets and would never get booked elsewhere so gave us some money back as no food could be served. we were not offered another hotel although other guests were put up elsewhere. we arrived to find a worksite -the ceiling in the bar area downstairs at front door had a huge hole in it with metal pipes sticking through and the upstairs floors had been riped up and a structural problem had been discovered. we can appreciate this was not planned and we knew the night before about work being done although not to this extent!!
but what digusted us was the state of our room. 2 flights up, though fire door, up another flight of stairs, then bedroom door - yet another inside door then!!! dirty carpets, dirty floors, toilet and toilet seat disgusting, black mould in the laudry basket + us feeling dirty when we were there!!! now this was a planned stay and you can't get the room clean? rory was very apologetic + gave us a bottle of wine but we'd never stay or recommend this hotel
anywhere but here
