“Disapointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

Menu in window looked tasty but once in and seated we were given the Festival menu which had limited dishes - unfortunately not the aubergine one I was planning to order. Service was slow. My vegetable biryani arrived plonked on my plate with some warm lettuce leaves. It was obviously a bag of frozen veg that had been used (diced carrots, peas and broad beans!)and there was not nearly enough sauce accompanying it. Id asked for it hot but it was medium. I had to ask for the bill twice and it took 12 mins to come accompanied by a grunt. Wouldn't go back.

“Fantastic value! Great food and service.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

We took out chicken biryani and a fried drumlet starter on the evening of 23/07/2013. Both were wonderfully done. We are very familiar with biryani in Singapore. Gurkha's was very flavourful, sufficiently moist (with the vegetable curry), and the chicken breast was fresh and cooked perfectly. The papadums were very good and crispy too. We went back the next day to take out the biryani chicken again, despite the rain. Would have gone back again if we were in Edinburgh the day after that. The staff was very friendly and helpful...I was invited to sit by a table to wait. The walls were decorated with large beautiful photos of Nepal.

“Very nice and friendly restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

We followed TripAdvisor advice, and went to Gurkha Cafe during our last stay in Scotland. The food is a mix of Indian and Nepalese dishes, and is really nice. Waiters are friendly and smiling. My boyfriend ordered the spiciest entree from the menu, so we received a visit from the chef making sure that everything was ok, we really appreciated that!

“Very good!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

This Nepalese restaurant is located in a cozy street to the castle. We were well received, and the service was good. The room is small but elongated. For starters we chose papadums with different dip and this was a good start. My husband ate chicken tikka, and in his opinion this was the best chicken tikka he has eaten in Europe. Juicy and cooked just right with a good sauce. My chiken tikka masala was not as good, a little weird aftertaste of the sauce. Would still recommend this restaurant, good value for money.
