“Budget Fringe accomodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here during the Fringe, mainly because it was at least £100 cheaper than anywhere else!

In our wisdom, we booked train tickets that got us into Edinburgh before 9.30am despite check in being at 3pm. On the off chance they had an early check in available I emailed assuming we'd have to pay extra. They emailed immediately to say it was fine and we could check in whenever. Good service. We continued to receive excellent service, thankyou reception staff!

We were pleasantly surprised by the room, it was clean and sizeable with a pretty decent bathroom. The room came with a kitchen which while not brilliantly stocked or clean was useful for reheating things and would be even more useful on a longer stay.

Although the hotel is slightly further out than other hotels the bus service is brilliant and runs from just around the corner at least every ten minutes. A day pass is £3.50 and we found it well worth it although a single journey is £1.50 if you won't be bussing much.

All in all we would stay there again as the value is second to none during the Fringe.

Facilities were ok. Hotel was clean.
They provided kitchen, vessels, microwave, iron, one sofa everything which they have mentioned on photoes and website. But room was not that spacious.
Good thing that this hotel is in city centre and nearby Edinburgh Castle.
Tesco express is also there, so you can buy any grocerly and ready to cook meals.

Room Tip: Rooms were not spacious.

We stayed here during the Edinburgh Fringe. The rooms are small and basic, not unlike hotel rooms. The look is fairly modern and simple, plus they have little kitchens with cooking utensils, so it's great if you plan to cook our prepare your own meals. The place is a little uncomfortable to eat in, only one desk chair and no real large table, but not terrible. The bathrooms are very clean and standard. Good water pressure from the shower was very good. Wi-fi is not included which was a little annoying but we had heard on here that was the case. There are a limited number of Wi-fi "passes" they sell, which keeps badnwidth usage under control I guess. The cheaper passes (£15/week) were sold out when we tried to purchase one, so we ended up getting the one week £25 pass, which worked out well for watching streaming video on BBC iPlayer. Still a bit pricey though.

There's a lovely breakfast place nearby, Loudon's. Definitely recommend going. The nieghborhood is quiet and there is a high street nearby in case you want to shop for groceries (Sainburys, Tesco) or go out to eat (Nando's, etc). There's even an Odeon cinema close by as well.

Walking to most major Fringe venues in the Edinburgh Old town took about 25-30min. We didn't mind always having a nice brisk walk in the morning and evening, but it's something to take into consideration. We saw most people taking cabs a lot.

The madras at the bed was orwful but all other Things were like they should be. It's not a very personal hotel but it's situated not far from most attraktions. The staff was friendly and helpful. It is near a Little Tesco supermarket and near a very good restaurant (the Gallery). There is no carpark but it's possible to park free in the street in nighttime.

Room Tip: Our room was situated to a very noisy road.

We used this budget accommodation for a group of us and had 2 flats with 5 single bedrooms. These also had the communal kitchen and living area so made it more sociable than staying at a budge hotel.

Check in was a long drawn out process as there were so many people all arriving at the same time. This is something which could be made easier or quicker. All the forms were ready with our names but it just seemed to take ages for everyone to check in. We were also given incorrect directions to the flat from reception.

I agree with previous reviews that the bedrooms are quite small. The bathrooms are tiny with a small shower. However, everything was clean and there was no noise. The beds were fairly comfortable although the double bed was not very large.

The hotel is a 5-10 minute walk from Haymarket railway station.

If you are looking for a budget hotel for a group of people with single rooms then this is perfect.

Me and my labmates stayed in the 5 bedroom flat during a conference. Smart iQ is right around the corner from the conference center. It worked really well for us. Everyone had their own bedroom and bathroom, but we had a common kitchen to socialize in. The accommodation was modern but basic. The bed was not incredibly comfortable. The Internet was very fast and reliable. Overall I would recommend it for folks traveling on a budget.

Booked for my son/girlfriend and their 2 month old baby - upgraded to the superior suite.

However was disappointed because the picture shows quite a big room all open plan when in fact the bedroom was seperate to the lounge so made it a lot smaller and more awkward with a pram.

The bathroom only had a shower and a small one at that - the bathroom was the size of an airport toilet!

Everything was ok though, basic - the oven wasn't clean full of crumbs and there was no microwave in there. Spoke to reception who said def had a microwave so asked them to clean the oven - they did and then realised it was only an oven and not a microwave as well so they put one in.

The lifts are so small - could only just squeeze in with the pram and had to walk quite a way from the lift to the room - not a huge deal but maybe they could book people with prams a little closer.

Bed was extremely comfy and no noise heard from outside so that was good.

All in all a comfortable place to stay if you're on a budget.

Room Tip: check the superior room with the hotel if you want a fully open plan room
