Just come back from 2 nights with our 2 children (15 & 10).
Absolutely first class - the room was large, bright & clean with 2 separate beds for the kids & plenty of wardrobe space. The bathroom was well equipped with bath, wall shower & separate hand shower. The whole hotel has has a refurb & looks great. The pool & jacuzzi were brill - but the sauna was a bit hot! The gym is great & the health spa also offers beauty treatments, but book well ahead. We had breakfasts, rooms service for the kids & an evening meal on our own & all were excellent - the breakfasts in particular offer everything you could possibly want. The Zoo is directly behind the hotel, & the city a 15 min bus ride (from outside the hotel). Book the breakfast as part of the price as they are expensive on their own (2 kids had free breakfasts with 2 paying adults). Definately recommend, particulary for families.

We stayed at this hotel, last week for 2 nights and it was excellent value for money. The rooms were neat and fresh, the staff were friendly, the breakfast was swift and efficient. It lies in an ideal situation right next to the zoo, and the main bus route is just outside, you can travel allday per person for little more than £2, that is your fare anywhere as often as you please. After reading reviews after booking, I was most worried, but as usual I think some people have nothing better to do with their time!!! So we were pleasantly surprised. The only thing that I could fault is the price of wine £15.95, for a bottle of E & J, or £5.95 for a large glass, now that is a rip off. But other than that we had a most pleasant stay and would gladly return.

I stayed at this hotel for a second time this very week. Since the last time I stayed I have stopped using credit cards as such and instead now use a pre-paid 'cashplus' card. This has been fine as I normally leave £50 on it to cover the deposit - never a problem at Marriott Hotels. However, this hotel wanted to take a £130 deposit, despite my room, dinner and breakfast being covered by my company travel agent who made the booking!
Anyway, apart from that I'd say previous comments regarding quality are un-founded. Like I say, this is my second visit and I found the room to be modern, clean and quiet and in fact the hotel was full on this occasion. If you've got a credit card and happy with the £130 dep., then I'd recommend this hotel but I'll probably go to the Marriott on Glasgow Road in future.

It's not in a bad location and a taxi to town will cost about £5. The rooms are clean - but I could have done without the sofa being made up as a bed - there was only me and a sofa would have been nice.

No conditioner in the shower is annoying. All you get is an all-in-one wash thing.

On the plus side it's nice to have a pillow menu and the food and breakfasts are nice.

My wife has always wanted to see the Edinburgh Tattoo so when we saw a 3 night package in the press that included tickets for the tattoo and a trip around Britannia we went ahead and booked.
After checking in and collecting the tickets and vouchers we soon worked out that the hotel room (albeit including a cooked breakfast) was costing us over £180 per night!!!
The room was very small and overlooked the service area so there was a lot of noise of bins being emptied etc etc. Breakfast was fine until the last morning when there were no yoghurts, no orange juice and very limited seating. It advertises itself as a "full service hotel" so perhaps half the cost is paying for the leisure facilities!
Purely out of interest I rang up Travel Inn central reservations who could offer us a room at a fraction of the price and which also would have been far larger.
You can understand why people holiday abroad rather than in the UK.
