This Holiday Inn is set in an ideal place, next to Edinburgh Zoo and with a very good bus service in the city centre - just DO NOT think of driving into Edinburgh given the current chaos with the road works for the new tram service. The buiding itself is somewhat 60s looking but is in good repair and a room at the front guarantees a fine view across to the hills. This Holiday Inn is fine and you should be comfortable here. It even has an oriental restuarant which we did not try, we also did not have dinner in the hotel but who does in a Holiday Inn in the UK? Oh how Holiday Inns overseas can teach us about food quality and service.
Breakfast at the weekend is of course a dire experience. Sitting in what can only be likened to a service station cafe, the large dining room will be awash with the great hungover shell suited members of the British public queueing for a huge plateful of fatty unappetising food - you know the stuff, cheap sausages, ruubbery bacon, tinned mushrooms and the cheapest possible bread you could imagine. But it is quantity that counts and if that is you - the you won't be disappointed. If however you want to come round in the morning with a peaceful breakfast with a good cup ot tea and some decent toast, then don't pay the extra for breakfast - go out it will be worth the wait.. The Holiday Inn breakfast experience is in my view amongst the worst of any of the leading hotel chains. However three days earlier the experience in Holiday Inn Linjden (Amsterdam Airport) was a completely different experience - superb. Maybe its not the hotel's fault - perhaps they just cater for their customers and at weekends the hotel is cheap - and apart from breakfast - fairly cheeful.
