I decided on this hotel mainly because most of the hotels near the city were booked out plus the fact that I was already familiar with the chain. Apart from the nonchalant front desk staff, service was just ok, nothing special. It was three of us, and through their website we managed to get a rate that included breakfast, which was satisfactory.....the usual anyway, but it was filling.
The best thing about this hotel is the location. It is next door to the zoo (open from 9-6) and on the bus route 12, 26 and 31 into the city, so transportation into town is good ( every 10-15 mins) without having to fight for parking there. Parking right outside the hotel entrance itself is tight but extra space is available further away from the main entrance.
The reception does not change money and unfortunately for us the ATM in the small lobby did not accept our card. As I understand it, the ATM does not accept many overseas cards. The banks would be your nearest exchange point . Internet is expensive but available.
The bathroom was not immaculate but it was fairly clean. More attention needed to be paid to the mould that was appearing in the basin area. The water pressure was quite heavy but I had a serious problem trying to get it to the right temperature. It was either blistering hot or icy cold. In trying to mix them, icy cold water came out one side and very hot water came out the other side of the spout. I didnt rinse off, I just dried off...much safer.
I would return if I didnt have a choice. I would however prefer to stay at another hotel.
For those interested, a short distance away from the hotel is a small snack place "Joe's 3 in 1" . It is near to the Haymarket Pub...I think its Morrison Road not very sure, BUT the prices are good and I found the service efficient. It is a tiny, cosy spot and if you drive too fast you will miss it. Joe and Donna are the friendly owners. They serve pizzas, kebabs and burgers.
