My wife and I celebrating our 25th anniversary,my dad celebrating his 80th b-day spent 6 of the most peacefull and beautiful days ever at Borthwick Castle. The location is the most perfect place for peace, views and serene vacations. The staff is the friendliest and warmest people we have ever met.they cannot do enough for you.The castle itself is the ultimate in comfort. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. With a bus system that runs 1 KM from the castle to Edinburgh made getting into the city very easy.I would highly advise anyone going to Scotland to stay at Borthwick Castle.Once again I can only say the area around the castle is breathtaking. If there is a heaven on earth it must be here.

my husband and i stayed in mary queen of scots room at the end of may 2008 and had a wonderful time. The castle is beautiful, the food was delicious and the staff were friendly and helpful, When we returned home to west yorkshire we found our photos covered covered in orbs!

We stayed in the Mary Queen of Scots room. The room itself was wonderfully presented and really gave you the feel of being in an historic location. We also dined at the castle in the main hall surrounded by suits of armour and a roaring log fire. The meal was excellent and the staff couldn't have been more attentive.
The manageress, Gail, was always attentive to our needs and was always on hand to offer a pot of tea and shortbread after a long days walking (which was always very welcome) (and the tour of the castle was great too).
So if you're looking for a Marriot Hilton with plasma tv and room service at 3am then look elsewhere. If, on the other hand, you're looking for a weekend to remember in a fanstastic location then you wont go far wrong with Borthwick.

  • Liked — The fact that it was a castle!
  • Disliked — The fact that we had to leave :(

Hi there,

I got married in Borthwick Castle in June 2007 and took the place on the exclusive use package. This is a REAL castle and as such is not a 5 star resort with luxury facilities. However, what you get for money is a fantastic building that oozes history and staff that couldn't be more helpful.

The rooms are clean and have amazingly thick walls. Some of the bathrooms are a bit on the small side but as I said this is a real castle..

Our guests came from as far away as Brisbane but were mostly from South of the border and every single one of them was blown away.. It really is a fantastic venue and a great place to spend a night or 2 if you get the chance. There's very little near the Castle but if you do need to get into Edinburgh it is do-able.

If you're thinking of getting married there look to Claire to do your flowers and get Roddy to pipe for you. Drop me a line if you need any info as I'll be willing to assist and make your big day as special as mine was.

Steve.

My husband, myself and my 11 year old daughter stayed at the castle in June 2007...We arrived at night after a long drive from the country , the castle was dark with candle light and the fire roaring ..we climbed up the old stone winding stair case to our room and instantly giggled at the history and charm of this wonderful old castle ...we had a wonderful meal, with wine and then the host told ghost stories by the fire of all the old ghosts that are apparently at this hotel..we were scared went we went to bed and my daughter and I slept with the blankets over our head with my daughter asking me every few minutes mom do you think its haunted....and me saying no honey....we had a fabulous time and a night we will never forget....It truly was a magical night ..Jane, Tim and Veronica from Canada
