We were orginally booked into the Guest House but due to renovation we were changed to this hotel which is run and owned by the same people. We were given an upgrade to our room with no extra cost to our original booking. From the time of booking until check out we received excellent, friendly and informative service. We were provided with local and transport information and, if the receptionists didn't know something, they took the trouble to find out and get back to us. The hotel has just been reburbished and a small bit of painting and decorating was still going on when we arrived. However, this did not get in the way of our stay at all and every attempt was made by the hotel to provide us with a relaxing and comfortable stay. The room was big but cosy and the bathroom had everything in it that you would want, including a power shower and a demisting mirror. There was a flat screen HD TV and an ipod/radio alarm. The bed was very comfortable and the garden view lovely. We had a very good meal in the hotel's bistro (Gabbro) and the breakfasts were varied and well cooked. They cooked porridge every day for me at my request and the service was quick, very polite and friendly. The hotel is about 20 minute walk from Princes street (a must for shopping) but the route is direct and full of shops along the way. Should walking not be your thing, the buses are all very clean and very regular. The Royal Mile is a must and if you do go then we would recommend The World's End pub/restaurant. The atmosphere is lovely, the service brilliant and the food (including the Haggis) was great....we went back it was so good. We also went to Ryan's (off Princes Street) which is an old wine cellar and is brilliant as some of the tables are in the old cask alcoves and so very private and romantic. Just around the corner from the hotel is a fabulous Thai restaurant called The Wild Elephant , which we would definitely recommend. All in all we had a fantastic 4 day trip and our stay at the Salisbury just added to our enjoyment. We are going back to Edinburgh this year and will definitely be staying at the hotel then. We have also recommended it to friends already.

Just returned from an excellent stay at the Salisbury Hotel where the welcome at Reception was genuinely friendly and very helpful - just what we needed after a very long flight! Our room was very stylish and comfortable - we loved the Ipod docking station and flatscreen tv and the hairdrier was great - a proper salon standard. The bed was really comfortable and we slept like logs - for a central location this place is really quiet.

Bathrooms were swish with walk in shower and a powerful one at that - loved the quirky mirror and great towels.

The best bit though was the food - the breakfast was of a really high standard and far better than we expected; the place is quiet small and intimate and turns into a bistro for lunch and dinner - we decided to give it a try for dinner on our last night as the rain was pouring outside and we are so glad we did - this was the highlight of our food experience in the city - excellent quality food nd expertly presented - we had the duck with crispy leeks and the seabass - fabulous and then the creme brulee and the chocolate baked desert - truly divine! We heartily recommend the Salisbury Hotel and if you decide to stay you MUST try the food at Gabbro - it will be one of the highlights of your stay. We recommend this to anybody looking for a classy, stylish hotel that provides great service and excellent value for money.

Having had a long drive up from Southampton we were up graded from their guest house accommodation, which we were initially booked into, to The Salisbury Hotel. We had the four poster bed room at the front of the Hotel, which was absolutely superb. Massive comfortable bed, couch, table and chairs, plasma tv, tea coffee biscuits with a big bathroom/wet room. The room was huge, very clean and beautifully decorated. The staff were very polite and extremely helpful. Breakfast was very good, good selection. The breakfast room doubling up in the evening as their very own restaurant. Not too keen on a la carte food but when we did pop down on New Years Eve for a drink we did try a dessert each, which was very nice.
Would definately recommend this Hotel and we will certainly be returning in the near future.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights in mid November. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. They booked us a day tour and gave us all the directions and info we needed. The rooms were spacious, very clean, and stocked with everything we needed. The shower was spacious with good water pressure. The beds were comfortable. The breakfast which was included in the stay was very good with much variety. There is a small lounge area at one end of the restaurant where we played cards and ordered drinks and snacks a few nights during our stay. The owner came by and talked to us a few times and was very friendly. The staff held our bags the last day for us until we headed off to the airport. The hotel is about a ten minute walk from the Royal Mile. If I return to Edinburgh I will definitely book a room here again!

I originally wanted to stay at the MW guesthouse round the corner but as it was fully booked, we stayed at the Salisbury. Prior reviews of the hotel on trip advisor did not fill me with confidence that the hotel would be a good place to stay. These bad reviews are not correct!! The hotel is gorgeous!! A cross between all mod cons and sympathetic restoration. The reception staff could not have been more friendly, they had a map of Edinburgh ready for us with bus times and prices in to town. (The walk is 20 minutes on to the Royal Mile). The room was clean, comfortable, stunning with an ipod docking station and flat screen TV on the wall. Very comfortable bed, we both slept really well. The bar downstairs was lovely with comfy red sofas; this was adjacent to the small restaurant. We didn't eat dinner there but it does have an Eat Scotland award. It was also very atmospheric. Breakfasts were fantastic - the usual cooked breakfast, cereal, croissants, etc. It also included scrambled eggs with chorizo sausage and wild mushrooms, and french toast with bacon and passionfruit syrup.
The hotel is just 5 minutes from Holyrood park so we were able to walk round there one morning.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone staying in Edinburgh. The price for the standard of accommodation is unbeatable.
