“awesomeness”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

By far the best coffee served in Edinburgh and for me one of the top coffees i have tasted globally.
The place has a nice easy-going hip ambience and it resembles to SanFran coffee joints.
Really cool guys there and A-M-A-Z-I-N-G coffee.
This coming from a coffee aficionado.

“Relaxing for coffee”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

Decided to visit alone. Not too many of those annoying and baffling gazillions of coffee options which are ridiculous. Had a flat white and Danish for £3.25 which is good value for what is meant to be the best coffee house in Edinburgh. Sat in back lounge where there are lots of cushioned benches. The overall decor seemed shabby but it added to its appeal. Loved the mini cafettiere lights. This place is v busy at weekends and I can imagine it being noisy. They have their own Roasting Den so you can take your fave coffee home.

“Good, but the potential excellent it could be...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

I met a girl travelling in Australia that recommended this place to me as she had tried to scour for the best coffee shop in Edinburgh. Finding the perfect coffee can be a never-ending battle often resulting in compromise. I must admit, I have visited Artisan Roast on several occasions simply for the great quality expresso. Silky milk in the lattes - beautiful. It is the other minor details that are overlooked that lets the experience down.

Most times I have visited (I appreciate it is a busy small place), tables are often left dirty with empty cups and saucers sitting on them. The teaspoons provided on the table have been mixed in with dirty ones which is not a very nice just before enjoying your coffee.

My biggest complaint here? My coffee is never hot enough, I don't want a boiling cup of hot coffee but the temperature is lukewarm. The milk may well be hot enough but the glass should definitely be heated up beforehand. My coffee was cold very quickly after receiving it which is not great when having a catch up.

However, I will be back to this coffee shop as the atmosphere is great and decor very edgy. The smell of the coffee shop alone is enough to give you a caffeine buzz! Keep up the good work but the "perfect" coffee is still to be served. :)

“Great coffee, hopeless staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

The esspresso here is high level, and the preparation of drinks above average. The cakes are good, but do not stand out amongst a very competitive Edinburgh cake market.

The prices represent decent value, especially if you only have a coffee/tea.

A lovely place to sit in, with lots of wood and dark tones used in the design to create a modern yet cosey, comfortable and slightly rustic feel, although the clientele may stare slightly if you're not wearing at least a wooly cardigan.

It was a shame that the guy serving me appeared to have been chosen more for his fine moustache than his ability to work in a cafe. Expect to have to wait some time for your drink.
