“PERFECTION!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2009

Slightly gushing review coming up. We've just had our wedding at the Balmoral and couldn't be happier. As we live overseas we were entirely reliant on tripadvisor to come up with a decent venue. We hadn't seen the venue until the day before the wedding and based our decision on reviews and photos. I don't think we could have possibly found somewhere better.

From the first time we contacted their events organiser, Jennifer we knew we were in safe hands. Every detail was covered and nothing was too much trouble. A godsend for someone trying to organise an event from the other side of the world. When the big day came the service we and our guests received was as good as any hotel I've stayed in anywhere in the world. All of the staff were friendly, efficient, well trained and helpful to a fault.

The food at the reception was excellent - always a concern when catering for large numbers and they did their best to cater for last minute requests. All this alone would have made the day amazing but then you factor in the beauty of the building and its rooms, its location and the views from the function rooms then you're forced to use words like "perfection". Our suite overlooked the castle and Royal Mile and when we returned after the reception the bed had been turned down with rose petals and there was a bottle of champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries waiting for us.

The hotel rooms themselves are nice but small. I understand the cheaper rooms don't have much of a view either. I'm sure you can get more space for your money elsewhere in Edinburgh but you would struggle to get the same character and I don't think anywhere in the UK offers the same level of service. I'm told that the spa is awesome.

I really can't praise the Balmoral and its staff highly enough.

Car parking by valet which makes things easy given it's excellent central location. Michelin number one restaurant has excellent service and food. One moan - on Saturday despite putting a notice to make up our room this had still not been done at 4pm in the afternoon which was a pain as the hotel reception areas get reserved for tea etc so can be difficult to find a comfy spot if your room is not ready. But All in all a great three night stay.

Excellent service. Every member of staff was friendly, polite and efficient. All asked the appropriate questions and seemed genuinely interested in our trip and in helping us. Bathrooms excellent - and I am normally very picky about bathrooms! Deep baths enough room for two. Excellent quality fixtures and fittings super shower. Lovely circular window feature.
We had a standard room which was a little small and dark but immaculate and the room servicing was million miles better than we got at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. Turn down service even pop your slippers on a mat.

Well done The Balmoral - so nice to find good service in UK!

Very impressed will definitely return and recommend without question.

I visit Edinburgh regularly and had always wanted to stay at The Balmoral. A combination of my partners birthday and an early train home the next day gave me the excuse I needed. We had such a great stay. It is a gorgeous hotel and the staff are so friendly and helpful. I managed to get a great rate from the hotel's own website on a standard double room for £135 which I was really pleased with. When they found out it was my partners birthday, they upgraded us to a massive room on the 6th floor. The receptionist showed us up to the room personally and showed us all the features. The views were spectacular. We loved the bathrobes and the lift straight to the pool. The pool is very relaxing and the free bar with quality coffee and fruit juice was a nice touch. We just didn't have enough time to really appreciate our room. When you want tea or coffee in your room, you call room serice and they deliver a complimentary tea & coffee tray with a freshly boiled kettle - a nice touch. We went out for dinner as we are both vegan and wanted to eat at Banns but rushed back. It was so luxurious. At night, someone comes in and shuts the curtains, turns on your lamps and turns down the bed. Loved the bathroom with the massive rainfall shower. Was gutted to leave. Can't wait to go back. This is such a classy hotel.

We are just back from a two night stay at the Balmoral and must say it was wonderful.
We booked a luxury double room from late rooms for £185 per night.
The hotel is truly romantic. The decor is modern but has a cosy feel. The staff cant do enough for you but are not intrusive.
When we checked in our car was immediately taken away , check in went well and we were personally shown to our room which was lovely and spacious. We had a view of Princes Street as well as a view of the north bridge.
We had booked afternoon tea at the Palm Court . This was elegant as well as having a laid back atmosphere. The sandwiches and cakes were delicious!!!
The Balmoral bar was nice for a refreshment after having a stroll and not too pricey compared to other 5 star hotels we have stayed in. Janine the waitress was working very hard and service was with a smile.
Breakfast at hadrian's was very nice but we had a little wait for our eggs but they were cooked perfectly. we also ate at Number 1 as a spceial treat. This we would highly recommend. The food was first class.
The spa was a peaceful and tranquil place and the staff were really friendly and helpful. We only have one small criticism and that was that the televisions could be updated but then we wern't there to watch TV but They were on the old fashioned style
We enjoyed our time at the Balmoral immensley and did not want to come home. We are now thinking of booking again for Valentine's day, we will just have to save some pennies!!!!

Just back from a 2 noght stay in The Balmoral. Location...location...location but also excellent service. Booked it thorugh Laterooms for £135 for a double. I'm sure it wasn't the finest room in the hotel (inside view) but we didn't pay the top price. The service is the best we have ever experienced - when I asked in the bar if it was OK to take the drinks to the room, the waitress offered to carry them for us....The only thing is the price of the car park. £25 per night. Ok, it is valet parking but it is still very steep. Would highly receommend the truly 5* Balmoral.
