Well where do i start.I can't begin to describe how fantastic this hotel is.
The location firstly was superb right next door to the station on Princes street within walking distance of the Royal Mile and castle and all the shops.
As soon as you arrive the staff are so attentive and really make you feel welcome.I was a bit wary at first as im not the type that gets really dressed up or anything but i still love nice hotels but not for one minute did i feel it mattered what i was wearing i felt quite okay in jeans. The lady at reception told us everything we needed to know and then took us to our room and told us where everything was.
There was no coffee facilities in the room but there was a card that said that all we needed to do was ring room service for complimentary coffee and tea which we did and it arrived within 5 minutes.
The room was lovely and big and id only booked a standard room so dont know what the others are like. The bed was the most comfortable ever.
The service in the bars and restaurant for breakfast was great we had no waiting at all.
We used the pool which id recommend to anyone, loungers at the side with magazines, a bar area were you could help yourself to fruit juices coffee and tea and ghd hair straighteners in the changing rooms just brilliant.
Again ill go back to the staff. So friendly and warm and they came across as really friendly people but in a professional way.
All i can say is well done and i hope to visit again

I stayed at the hotel with a baby, my husband and mother-in-law so things could have been difficult!!

Thanks to the amazing hotel staff, we had a fantastic 3-night stay at the hotel. On arrival, we were upgraded to a suite which had superb views of the castle. The reception staff weren't able to provide the steriliser and bottle warmer initially (due to high demand) - we said we would manage with a kettle, but they just went out and bought a new steriliser for us! They had lovely touches too, like giving a teddy bear, dressed in its own fluffy dressing gown, for children; they had an Easter bunny who was supposed to visit the rooms of the children resident in the hotel. (They actually missed us out, but left us an Easter egg instead, so fine by me!) We arranged a baby-sitter through the hotel, which worked out excellently. The hotel has a pool, spa and gym - all very good. We ate in the formal restaurant and had a lovely meal. Breakfasts were great and the service very good. I would struggle to fault this hotel. Worth every penny and all in all, this was one of the best hotel experiences I have had. I will definitely return to The Balmoral.

Balmorals hotel in Edinburgh is situated right in the center of the city and part of the rooms has a beautiful view of the castle. It seems to be a pretty fancy place, and near the entrance there are always beautifully dress people heading somewhere. The building looks impressive, that’s why when you actually find yourself in the room you are a little disappointed. Although our room was huge and clean, it was way too average considering the design. We slept well and were delighted to find a bottle of Champaign and personal letter from the manager wishing us all the best since it was the last day of our honeymoon. I would probably recommend the hotel, if only you are not looking forward to getting a luxury experience you would expect.

After seven visits to Edinburgh, we decided we should try the Balmoral because it is such an iconic sight when going to or from the Waverley train station or walking along Princes Street. I was pleasantly surprised at the price of the rooms whch I had expected to be much more than they were. We originally booked an executive king but when checking the hotel's website later, the prices had gone down, so booked the upgraded deluxe king.

The room size was not particularly large for a room three levels above the standard size but the bathroom was very spacious and beautiful. There were lots of extra amenities like bathrobes, slippers, bottled water and large bottles of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and lotion. A shoe shine was not added to the cost of the room. The TV had video games and other capabilities which we did not explore. The bed was very comfortable and at night, the room was very quite so we had very restful sleeps. I expect a key element of the upgraded room was the top floor with a view of Edinburgh Castle, which could be enjoyed even when sitting on the toilet!

I used the business centre and had to pay for internet use. Room service for a pot of coffee and tea was a bit pricey: 11 pounds.

Service was impecable in the hotel although we found it quite slow when having breakfast in Hadrian's Brasserie. I had a pedicure at the spa which was very nice indeed. It was done in a private room which I have not experienced before. My experiences in Canada and the US have been in a room with a number of stations for others having a pedi or manicure.

If I had one complaint it would be the rather snooty attitude of the doorman when we first arrived. We had been hill walking earlier that day and got rained on so our trousers were spattered with mud and undoubtedly our hair was more than a bit windblown. The doorman asked whether we were checking in with a tone that suggested we were too bedraggled to be entering the Balmoral. He could have been a bit more sympathetic. We wanted to check in so we could clean up!

In any event, we would definitely stay at the Balmoral again especially if the price is reasonable.
