“Cream tea”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

After looking around for somewhere that has gluten free cream teas.
We thought this would be good. How wrong could I be.After sitting down we were told no gluten free scones. So cream tea without cream.when stand arrived they were 10 sandwiches and shop bought tray bakes.my daughter told when phoning no sandwiches.
The non gluten free was not any better.
Horrible cakes
And could you call it tea .
Would have been better going to MacDonalds .

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for your comments on TripAdvisor regarding your Cream Tea at The Edinburgh Residence. We are always pleased to read what our guests thinks, as it really does help with our commitment to continually review and improve the service we provide.

We make every effort to ensure all our guests enjoy a truly memorable experience at The Edinburgh Residence, but admittedly on this occasion we appear to have let ourselves down and we are sorry and disappointed about this.

I understand that at the time, our Manager on Duty ensured you were not charged for the gluten free Cream Tea and invited you back to The Edinburgh Residence as our guest. I do hope you will return as our guest and allow us the opportunity to provide Cream Tea to our usual and expected standards of service.

Kind Regards,

Celia Hague

I must first declare an interest as a "Timeshare" owner at the Edinburgh Residence, however, it is the perfect base for exploring Edinburgh and the surrounding countryside. Despite having been an "Owner" for many years we have never used the Residence, our mistake! It is ideally located in a quiet part of the West End of the city within walking distance of Princes Street and all the sites worth visiting. Well appointed with extremely helpful staff and most important, its own parking! Although we did not eat in, the menus were most inviting and reasonably priced. We will most certainly be back!!

Dear Mickrush,

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us at The Edinburgh Residence and thank you for sharing your recommendation on TripAdvisor.

We couldn’t agree more that with our central, yet peaceful location and free onsite car parking, The Edinburgh Residence is a wonderful base from which to explore Edinburgh and the local area. Housed in 3 Georgian/Victorian townhouses dating from 1872 and maintaining a number of period features throughout, The Edinburgh Residence is located in Edinburgh’s exclusive West End only a short ten minute walk from Princes Street.

As timeshare owners of The Edinburgh Residence, we very much look forward to welcoming you back next year.

Warm Regards,

Celia Hague

My husband and I really enjoyed staying at the Edinburgh Residence on our recent trip. The consierge was SO helpful; he gave us a map, circled and highlighted main attractions, gave us directions, and always had an umbrella handy for the rainy weather. Definitely go for the Scottish Breakfast delivered to your room - we felt very pampered! The food was great, too, and if you're hungry - you can order the whole menu for the same price! Our room was clean, well decorated, and the bed was SO comfy. If I had to come up with one criticism, it would be that it's about a 15 minute walk from Prince's street - but we really enoyed walking around the city. It was good after all those heavy meals!

All in all, we loved our trip to Edinburgh, and the Edinburgh Residence made it that much better! I highly recommend this hotel!

Our Front Desk team are a fountain of knowledge on what to do and where to go in Edinburgh and the surrounding area. Your comments regarding the helpfulness of the team are much appreciated and will be passed onto them.

The Edinburgh Residence has an enviable location only a ten minute walk from buzz of Princes Street and yet peacefully situated in a New Town crescent with views over the beautiful and historic Dean Village.

I have stayed in many of Edinburghs 5 stars from the Balmoral to the Scotsman but have to say the Edinburgh Residence is head and shoulders above if not for the quality of the suite and the wonderful service not to mention the honest bar but for it's food alone. I stopped in a Townhouse Suite, it was fab, four poster bed, great bath views of the castle. I had full Scottish breakfast which was fab. The only downside was that I was only staying two nights. I shall definately be staying again in the near future. superb!

Dear GMC,

Thank you very much for taking the time to recommend The Edinburgh Residence on TripAdvisor. We are delighted to hear you describe your stay with us as “superb” and we look forward to welcoming you back for a longer stay in the future.

Whilst we may not be a large as other five star hotels in Edinburgh, this simply means we can concentrate on delivering exceptional service at all times and in all areas – for example, all our breakfasts are cooked to order, ensuring it is still hot and fresh when it is delivered to your Suite, we will happily park your car for you with no extra costs, we offer free WiFi access throughout the hotel, and of course all our team members will welcome you with a friendly smile and a warm “Good Morning”.

All our Suites are individual in design and atmosphere, so a return visit to The Edinburgh Residence is always advised and we hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you again to The Edinburgh Residence.

Best Wishes,

Wow! We booked a grand suite and let me tell you it was Grand! Our room exceeded our expectations by a mile. The bathroom was incredibly spacious, I believe it was larger than some of the earlier rooms we stayed in during our trip. It was an added treat to be able pick what you want for breakfast and have it delivered to our room at the time you want. We only had 24 hours in Edinburgh and the staff were so helpful, high lighting maps for us, arranging taxi’s, valet parking…making our short time here memorable I would highly recommend this place to my friends and we will be returning one day to stay longer

It's like a grand home from home! The rooms are fabulous, very comfortable and have some self-catering facilities; the food is excellent (incl room service), the staff are great! The location is perfect - walking distance to Princes Street, art galleries, Haymarket Station; longish but do-able walking distance to castle, royal mile, museums; good bus services to Leith, zoo, East Lothian coast..... Not cheap, but good value for money - wouldn't want to stay anywhere else now!

Room Tip: All the rooms are fabulous - we have never been disappointed! Some have spa baths, some (top floor...

Dear DerekandSarah,

Thank you for your 5 star review on TripAdvisor after your recent stay at The Edinburgh Residence. Your description of The Edinburgh Residence as “a Grand Home from Home” is wonderful and we aim to ensure all our guests are as comfortable and relaxed as they are in their own home.

As you mentioned in your review, all our Suites come with some self catering facilities: kettle, fridge, microwave, Nespresso machine, crockery, cutlery and glasses. And, unlike your own home – we will clean the dishes for you whilst you are exploring the delights of Edinburgh during the day! We do, of course, also offer a 24hour room service menu too.

Thank you for your kind comments regarding the team – this will be passed onto them. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Edinburgh Residence when you are back in Edinburgh.

Warm Regards,

Delighted to read your review Sheenamorag and pleased to hear you enjoyed your recent stay at The Edinburgh Residence.

Our spacious wheelchair accessible suite features a roll in shower as well as grab rails in the bathroom and a shower stool. All areas of the hotel are accessible to wheelchair users, including our grand Drawing Room, where we serve our delicious Afternoon Tea. All served with freshly brewed Twinings Tea or Brodies of Edinburgh coffee and for an extra added indulgence, we include a glass of sparkling wine with all our Afternoon Teas – a “must do” for any stay at The Edinburgh Residence.
